The Situation

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is seeking a Manager, 

Internet User Groups to support individual Internet-user groups' participation in ICANN.  This

position reports to the Vice President - Policy Development and will be based in one of ICANN's

four offices:  Los Angeles and Washington, DC in the USA; Brussels, Belgium; and Sydney,

Australia.

ICANN (www.icann.org) is responsible for the global coordination of the Internet's system of

unique identifiers, including domain names (such as .com, .auk, and .jobs), as well as the addresses

used in a variety of Internet protocols. ICANN's work is complex and fascinating, and the

corporation is filled with tremendously bright and interesting individuals.

The Position

This position is responsible for supporting the individual Internet users throughout the world,

providing advice and counsel to them, facilitating their involvement in policy development and

assisting them in fulfilling their responsibilities to the general population accessing or wishing to

access the Internet.

The Organization

ICANN is a nonprofit public benefit corporation responsible for the global coordination of the

Internet's system of unique identifiers. These include domain names as well as the addresses used in

a variety of Internet protocols. Computers use these identifiers to reach each other over the Internet.

Careful management of these resources is vital to the Internet's operation, so ICANN's global

stakeholders (Registrars, Registries, Internet user groups, etc.) meet regularly to develop policies that

 ensure the Internet's ongoing security and stability.

The community of individual Internet users participate in the policy development work of ICANN. 

Currently, more than 100 groups representing the views of individual Internet users are active

throughout the world.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience with policy and standards groups, excellent English

communications skills, and the demonstrated ability to work independently in a distributed

environment with diverse interest groups and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience providing advice and counsel to various

organizations and constituencies. He or she will have expertise in international policy development,

proven success in pro-actively facilitating consensus, and success coordinating multiple projects

simultaneously.
