Director of EngineeringIGN Entertainment, a unit of Fox Interactive Media, Inc., is a leading Internet media and services provider focused on the videogame and entertainment enthusiast markets. Collectively, IGN’s properties reached more than 30 million unique users worldwide in the month of November 2007, according to Internet audience measurement firm comScore Media Metrix. IGN’s network of videogame-related properties (IGN.com, GameSpy, FilePlanet, TeamXbox, Direct2Drive and others), is the Web’s number one videogame information destination and attracts one of the largest concentrated audiences of young males on the Internet. IGN also owns and operates the popular movie-related website, Rotten Tomatoes and one of the leading male lifestyle Websites, AskMen.com. In addition, IGN provides technology for online game play in videogames. IGN is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, with offices throughout the U.S. and in Montreal. We're looking for a dynamic Director of Engineering to manage the Media engineering team for the largest video game website on the Internet. The successful candidate will have a strong management and technical background, excellent communication skills, along with a proven track record delivering projects within a large organization.Responsibilities:•Lead software development activities such as software design, development, unit testing, documentation, integration testing, deployment documentation, code reviews, adherence to software development standards; •Participate in reviewing and/or defining product requirements; •Estimate software engineering efforts, prepare and execute software development project schedules; •Coordinate with product management, web development, sales, ad operations, technical operations, software engineering and QA, engaging teams at the appropriate times;•Anticipate problems and form remediation plans before the projects suffer;•Provide guidance to the team software architecture, design, coding, documentation, and testing;•Help establish quality methodologies, metrics, and standards to track and improve the software process;•Mentor and recruit top talent for our engineering team.Required Skills: •10+ years experience in requirements analysis, design, coding and testing in high-performing web applications;•5+ years demonstrated success in engineering management and leadership producing world-class web applications;•Accomplished Internet technologist, skilled in architecture, development and implementation practices and scalability;•Broad technical background including Java and LAMP web development, AJAX, CSS, HTML/XHTML, Javascript, Flash, ActionScript etc;•Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills -- must possess the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to audiences of varying technical acumen; •Demonstrated success in building and managing talented teams of engineers and establishing an environment conducive to achievement, performance and commitment. Must possess the ability to delve into a technical problem and drive the solution personally, if the need arises;•Strong project management skills - must be able to direct and coordinate all activities necessary to complete major projects requiring a wide variety of technical skills;•Conscientious, hard working, flexible, have an excellent eye for details, self-motivated and a quick learner;•A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field.Desired Experience•.NET software experience; •Agile/SCRUM software development;•Web site performance optimization;•SOX/PCI compliance.
