Workers' Compensation Claims Supervisor

Argonaut Insurance Company currently has a challenging opportunity for a Workers Compensation Claims Supervisor located in Fresno, California.  The primary purpose of this position is to successfully supervise a claims unit for Argonaut’s California and Oregon operations.

 

Specific job duties and responsibilities include:

1.  Develop and lead a team of workers’ compensation adjusters who have accountability for customers in California and Oregon.

2.  Provide direction, leadership and training to in-house claims professionals.

3.  Manage vendor relations to develop optimum case outcomes, cost performance, and measurement criteria.

4.  Establish working relationships with diverse Business Unit leaders on claims related issues, including strategic loss reduction initiatives.

5.  Establish, refine and evolve best-in-class claim management program operating characteristics, measurement criteria, and meaningful metrics benchmarking.

6.  Provide advice and oversight into claim disposition strategies, workers compensation statutes, managed care techniques, and tort law.

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:Must have good business acumen (i.e. understand how an insurance company works and makes money, including how this role impacts both Argonaut’s and our customers’ ability to be profitable).

2.  Preferably 5 years prior experience working in Claims Supervisory capacity.

3.  Extensive experience with Workers’ Compensation and experience with self managing claims.  Strong technical expertise of workers’ compensation law is required.

4.  Strong leadership and management skills.  Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills.  The ability to read and write English fluently is required.  The ability to read and write Spanish fluently is strongly preferred but not required.

6.  Strong customer service focus

7.  Strong analytical and presentation skills

8.  Ability to work with Business Unit leaders at strategic level

9.  Strong litigation management skills.

10. Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, approximately 10% of the time.

11. CPCU/ARM or other professional designation a plus.

 

 

The successful candidate will also:

1.  Measure his/her own success by performance in quickly identifying issues and bringing resolution to outstanding issues.

2.  Have an aptitude for working with complex medical, legal and rehabilitation issues, while staying focused on managing those issues to the appropriate financial outcome. 

3.  Have a collaborative orientation and ability to work with multiple partners (insured, injured worker, doctors, rehabilitation experts, and attorneys).

4.  Possess a real passion for improving results through proactive claim management.
