Web Developer IIIThis senior level position is responsible for the interaction design of complex, web-based user interfaces. Collaborates with other user experience professionals, technologists and business peers to align user needs with business objectives.Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Contributes to and applies appropriate quality process and standards. Tracks, recommends and communicates changes to prevent quality issues. May explore external vendor options. Held accountable for cost-savings-related measures. Purchases images to be licensed. May explore external software vendor opportunities. Makes strong recommendations on a majority of team and project issues and reports solutions to management. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. May develop and lead self-directed initiatives that have strategic business benefit.Works on problems of complex and diverse scope and typically involve new functionality, technologies and multiple user groups.Duties and Responsibilities: Research-Investigates and identifies user needs through: web analytic data, competitor and web industry research and user feedback. Conducts stakeholder interviews and collects user input via customer surveys.Development-Designs pages with best practices, web conventions and standards. Represents the user by designing applications and pages/flows that are easily completed.-Working independently of manager, initiates projects most frequently strategic with greater business implications-Directly responsible for creating solid project scope and all requirements generations-Possesses strong business and technology skills that are used extensively in all projects-May define best approach(es) based on strong business project management skills-Solves and implements the resolution to vaguely defined or potential problems which have significant affect on customers, business or critical systems-Gains proficiency with HTML, Web editing tools, JavaScript, XML, CSS, Flash and Flex-Conducts analysis of less structured business or technical problems-Analyzes suitability, business benefit and cost effectiveness of efforts-Stays current on web trends and technologies.Project Management-Manages multiple operational, tactical and larger projects simultaneously. Work priorities are independently set. Works with project team to communicate regularly on topics such as: schedule, status and issues. Ensures seamless transition of project work to user experience peers and IT through implementation phase. Tracks and reports on the performance of the solution once it is elevated into the production environment.User Testing-Tests designs/flows in the formal usability lab to gather user feedback, report feedback, recommend changes and revise screens if necessary. May create and test usability scenarios to serve as basis for all design discussions. Responsible for working with usability peers to improve usability process.Relationships-Collaborates with business and IT to negotiate solutions for maximum efficiency. Regularly interacts with peers in cross-functional areas.-Conducts strategic discussions with senior level management and/or business Knowledge, Skills and Experience:-Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience-6+ years visual web design experience-Prior experience designing for large web sites or complex web applications, graphic design/digital media experience or interactive multimedia development experience-Prior experience applying user experience methodologies, and participating in usability testing-Understands the state of the current system including strengths and weaknesses. Has specialized knowledge within a specific web application, or portion of a web application-Demonstrates understanding of the insurance industry, competitive environment and trends-Advanced experience with Flash -Excellent communication skills, verbal and written as well as listening-Prepares and delivers presentations and training to other teams within the organization At Progressive, status quo won't cut it.
