VP of Business Stategy
Risk Management Specialist
Conducts on-site reviews to determine risk factors. Provides risk management recommendations, interventions and consultation to policyholders regarding risk management issues. Develops and presents and implements risk management services and products, including but not limited to, educational programs focused on lowering and preventing policyholder loss exposures. Acts as technical advisor as needed to risk management specialists. Serves as resource to Risk Management Department for complex risk management issues.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent must have the skills and ability to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
· Collaborates with management on the development of strategic planning for the Risk Management Department.
· Provides leadership regarding planning and developing short-term and long-term departmental and interdepartmental projects as assigned.
· Supports and provides leadership to Risk Management Department through ongoing contributions to enduring and concurrent risk management materials, products, services, group practice and/or hospital programs in conjunction with management.
· Leads special project teams, including preparation of reports and implementation plans, as requested by departmental management.
· Acts as technical advisor to less experienced Risk Management Specialists for policyholder inquiries, site reviews, reports and presentations. At management request, provides initial training and ongoing mentoring of Risk Management Specialists.
· Conducts policyholder site reviews and prepares comprehensive reports and recommendations.
· As assigned based on the complexity of the situation and experience, conduct on-site and clinical interventional risk management visits, prepare confidential reports and give presentations as to the level of compliance with risk management programs and intervention.
· Prepare and present verbal and written Risk Management analysis to the Peer Review Committee and to the Risk Management Committee.
· Responds to individual policyholder risk management inquiries by phone, letter and intra-departmental referrals Researches and provides in-depth analyses of emerging risk management issues in healthcare, medicine, law, government regulatory standards and professional liability. Consults with and acts as an informational resource providing risk management information to company staff, medical societies, and policyholders. Develops and presents programs to groups of physicians, office staff and hospital staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
· Undergraduate degree with major in healthcare-related field. Current state licensure as RN, NP, or PA or Master’s degree. Additional insurance courses, risk management courses, or risk management designation such as CPHRM or ARM desirable.
· Three to five years’ experience in healthcare field required. This includes direct experience working with healthcare organizations, knowledge of credentialing, quality assurance, medical records management, medical group management, hospital administration, regulatory issues and current health care issues.
· Minimum of three years’ experience in a medical malpractice/risk management environment, including a minimum of one year’s experience with demonstrated proficiency as a Risk Management Specialist or comparable professional liability insurance company experience.
· Prior experience in a leadership role, including ability to evaluate and determine project priorities, and work in a team environment.
· Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Exercise independent judgment in solving complex problems.
· Ability to research topics, makes recommendations, and communicates to individuals and groups through both oral and written means.
· Effective presentation skills, including public speaking.
· Available for travel, which could include air travel and extended overnight stays.
· Own or lease an automobile. Proof of valid California Driver’s license and registration. Able to operate motor vehicle continuously for up to eight hours in any one day.
· Employees must be able to pay for certain business expenses in advance. Examples include such items as airline tickets, rental cars, hotel deposits, seminar registrations, etc. Employees are eligible for reimbursement for such expenses through the company’s Expense Reimbursement Policy.
