We are one of the leading insurance companies in the United States.  Our superior financial strength and consistent record of strong operating returns mean security for our customers - and opportunities for our employees.  You will find Travelers to be full of energy and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference. We are currently looking for an Account Manager.  Please read on for more details regarding this position. JOB DESCRIPTION: Basic Function:Provide front line supervision to the claim service department.Supervise the training, workflow, work quality and performance of claim handlers (exempt/non-exempt) in unit. Oversee investigation, evaluation and settlements, while providing timely customer service. Major Responsibilities:-Coordinate workflow and provide technical assistance, training and direction for claim staff.  -Establish performance objectives and provide both informal and formal feedback and evaluations. Assist and monitor claim staff with their career development.-Maintain quality claim files in accordance with appropriate office procedures.  Review estimates and file activity throughout the life of files.-Review loss notices to determine extent of loss and coverage and steps to be taken to process, investigate, evaluate and negotiate claims.-Maintain a thorough knowledge of lines supervised in order to oversee general operation.-Evaluate status of pending claims for timely and efficient resolutions.  Ensure serious injury exposure is recognized and files referred to Major Case Unit as appropriate.-Oversee litigation planning with attorneys and attend lawsuit committee meetings as appropriate.-Complete periodic review of open and closed files and other completed projects to assure quality work product, provide feedback to staff, and address any concerns/issues.-Communicate unique issues to Marketing / Business Center. Knowledge/Qualification/Experience:-Degree or equivalent in a Business discipline.-Substantial experience in working in a claim operations environment in terms of determining coverage/fault, investigation and research, evaluation and negotiation and final settlement.-Understanding of product lines, objectives of claim processing, and legal theory issues involving claim resolution.-Working knowledge of claim management systems and applicable software. Purpose:-Conducts coverage investigation and analysis, liability investigation and analysis, evaluation of bodily injury claims and negotiation and resolution of PL auto bodily and homeowner’s liability claims.-Makes same day voice-to-voice contact with claimants and insureds; provides outstanding customer service and adheres to company Best Practices.-Investigates, evaluates, reserves, negotiates and settles assigned claims in accordance with Best Practices.-Provides aggressive, quality claim handling and superior customer service on assigned claims, while engaging in indemnity and expense management.-Promptly manages claims by completing essential functions including contacts, investigation, damages development, evaluation, reserving, litigation management and disposition. Job Components:-Timely coverage analysis and communication with insured based on application of policy information to facts or allegations of each case.-Investigate each claim through prompt contact with appropriate parties such as policyholders, accounts, claimants, law enforcement agencies, witnesses, agents, medical providers and technical experts to determine the extent of liability, damages and contribution potential.  Take necessary statements.-Identify resources for specific activities required to properly investigate claims such as outside claim representatives, fire or fraud investigators and to other experts.  Request through Unit Manager and coordinate the results of their efforts and findings.-Verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing appropriate records and damages documentation.-Keeps effective diary management system to ensure that all claims are handled timely.  At required time intervals, evaluate liability and damages exposure and establish proper indemnity and expense reserves.  Utilize evaluation documentation tools in accordance with department guidelines. -Responsible for prompt and proper disposition of all claims within delegated authority.  Negotiate disposition of claims with insureds and claimants or their legal representatives.  Recognize and implement alternate means of resolution.-Maintain claim files, have an effective diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.-Update appropriate parties as needed, providing new facts as they become available and their impact upon the liability analysis and settlement options.-Recognize cases based on severity protocols to be referred to next level claim handler or Major Case Unit and refer on a timely basis.-Appropriately deal with information that is considered personal and confidential.-Compliance with Claim department’s Best Practices-Address inquires from agents and brokers.-Handles minor or simple litigation.-Manage litigation expenses and payout, important for development. Qualification/Requisite Skills:-College degree or equivalent in business discipline-2-3 years of general claim handling experience preferred-Strong interpersonal skills with advance proficiency in written and oral communication-Advanced level knowledge and skill in claims and litigation-Basic working level knowledge and skill in various business line products-Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and Web Based applications-Strong analytical and negotiation skills WORK EXPERIENCE:Claim management experience preferred COMMUNICATION SKILLS:Excellent oral and written communication skills COMPUTER SKILLS:Computer literateBasic typing skills OTHER:Current knowledge of jurisdictional laws and regulations Customer FocusDecisivenessAbility to energize others/demonstrated leadership skillsFlexibilityIntegrityInfluence and persuasionFlexibilityDecisivenessLeadershipEnergizing othersPlanning, prioritizing, goal setting In addition to an exciting environment, we offer: * Competitive base salary with additional opportunities for variable pay through recognition programs and incentive awards * 401(k) with company match* Comprehensive health plans that include coverage for same sex/domestic partners* Strong work/family and employee assistance programs* Tuition reimbursement * Vacation Purchase Plan* Training/Development opportunities We are proud to provide comprehensive, high quality employee programs to meet employees' needs now and in the future, including a very competitive financial package.
