Underwriter (Commercial Property & Casualty)

We have an immediate opening in our corporate headquarters (Bala Cynwyd, PA) for an experienced Underwriter.  Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Underwrite and price business according to delegated underwriting authority and guidelines referring accounts outside of Underwriting authority to manager with recommendations.

Examine such documents as application forms, website, brochures and past claims, financial reports and contracts to determine degree of risk from such factors as financial standing and loss experience.

Attain renewal written premium goals, premium/pricing increases, renewal retention and number of quotes per month as established by the Company.

Follow all standard Operating/Production procedures and Code of Business Conduct as defined by management making continuous recommendation for improvement.

Maintain pure loss ratio as established by the performance goals.

Utiltize Underwriter checklist on all accounts.

Monitor and recommend renewal strategy for accounts on monthly Loss Ratio Exception Report and Summary Loss Reports.

Communicate with field representatives/independent agents by following Marketing procedures to obtain further information quote rates or explain company underwriting policies. 

Determine whether to accept, modify or decline risks by following product guidelines.  Calculate standard rates and premium charges from approved filings.

Ensure reinsurance is properly placed and documented. 

Maintain adequate file documentation and justification for all credits and debits. 

Specify applicable endorsements or apply rating to ensure safe and profitable distribution of risks.

Review and modify rating worksheets and prepare proposals. 

Review and approve changes or questions on coverage or exposures. 

Maintain speed of service objectives.

Utilize Underwriter checklist and perform quality control on files.

Education / Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Three to five years commercial package underwriting experience required.
