Senior Underwriting Consultant

MetLife, a leading provider of insurance and other financial services to individual and institutional customers, is seeking a Senior Underwriting Consultant in Somerset, NJ! Major Duties and Functions Include: A senior level individual contributor who, in addition to performing all the duties of the Underwriting Consultant, appraises and underwrites the larger, more complex applications for life insurance up to assigned approval limits Effectively communicates adverse findings to field force, defends underwriting courses of action, and negotiates equitable resolutions Has similar approval levels as the Team Manager, but has more technical responsibilities ($3MM - $5MM) Signs off on cases referred by less experienced underwriters Represents Life New Business at MetLife business functions and industry meetings Performs other duties as required or assigned May provide guidance to less experienced staff What You Need to Succeed: 8 to 10 years of underwriting experience Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business training Very strong knowledge of underwriting policies and procedures, and guidelines dealing with risk analysis Excels at underwriting impaired risks Strong knowledge of insurance principles Very strong understanding of medical terminology, human biology and anatomy Demonstrated platform/presentation skills FINRA series 6 and 26 preferred CLU or FLMI designation preferred Focuses on Customers Use of Sound Business Judgment Decision- Making Ability Produces Results Demonstrates Technical & Functional Expertise Communicates Effectively Work shouldn’t be something you do just to make ends meet.
