We are currently looking for a Senior Distributed Desktop Specialist to join OneBeacon Insurance in Canton, MA.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Microsoft Windows server operating systems and applications. Recognize and troubleshoot problems with server hardware and applications software. Establish and document standards and procedures.
2. The position is responsible for delivering fully engineered VMware and/or MS Windows-based environments to meet the hosting requirements for a variety of applications.
3. Improves efficiency through continuous improvement. Identifies, plans, and deploys methods to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the group by choosing tools, scripting, and documenting processes for re-use.
4. Provides Tier II and Tier III support to the Enterprise Support Center.
5. Cross-trains with teammates to ensure that coverage is maintained to adequately handle fluctuations in volume, staffing, and learning curves.
6. Provides direction and services to subsidiaries, reciprocals, and parent company's security and email needs.
Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level:
Performs complex work under very limited supervision and exercises independent judgment and decision making in accordance with specified policies and guidelines. Possesses exceptional procedural and/or technical knowledge that has been developed through considerable experience. May provide guidance to junior staff.
Required Skills & Abilities:
1. Hands on experience with mid to large scale VMware environments (VMware ESX 2.5.x, 3.0.x and VirtualCenter 1.x and 2.0.x) in development and production settings, including implementing, troubleshooting, managing, configuring, and patching. Experienced with upgrading from ESX 2.5.x to VI3 (in-place upgrades and migration upgrades)
2. Must have a broad IT knowledge, project planning, decision making, communication, and customer service skills.
3. Minimum 3 years experience engineering, and/or implementing large-scale Microsoft Infrastructure solutions
4. Experience implementing/managing VMware ESX Server and Virtual Center shared environments
5. Expertise with Storage Technologies – preferably Hitachi – SAN, NAS, iSCSI,
6. Strong understanding of networking technologies/concepts– VLANS, switches, load balancing, reverse proxy, firewalls, etc.
7. Strong Microsoft software expertise e.g. Windows 2000/2003 Server, IIS, Active Directory, SQL Server, ASP, COM, COM+, .Net
Education and Experience Preferred:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field required.
2. 3+ years of experience with one or more of the related systems: Microsoft certifications, and VMware Exchange.
3. Industry certification (PMP, MCSE, VMware Certified Professional)
4. 2 to 3 yrs. experience in Windows environment
5. 2 to 3 yrs. experience in Unix/Linux environment
