POSITION INFORMATION:

Essential FunctionsDevelop, implement and monitor workers compensation, general safety and health, liability, and loss control programs. Ensure that regulations and internal policies and procedures regarding workers compensation are followed and explained to employees; stay current with changes in the law and ensure that procedures are updated to include required changes. Provide training for management personnel in occupational safety and health and loss control to reduce the cost, severity and frequency of industrial accidents and illnesses. Coordinate and conduct health and safety training programs for employees. Conduct or coordinate health and safety inspections, document hazards and exposures, notify appropriate department or division.  Respond to and resolve employee complaints and concerns regarding health and safety; provide information. Assist with the investigation of accidents involving employees. Review employment accident and injury reports; investigate claims, prepare and log occupational and injury illness report. Monitor all lost time and modified duty cases, consulting with physician, insurance carrier and employee’s supervisor where necessary to facilitate the employee’s return to duty. Provide information and assistance to 3rd party administrators (i.e., insurance broker, insurance carriers) regarding workers compensation, safety and liability programs to assist in resolving claims as soon as feasible. Monitor, the updating and maintenance of various manuals, reports and files; prepare correspondence and memorandums in support of assigned functions. Collect and organize data as needed and prepare various internal and external statistical reports. Participate and coordinate renewal process with insurance broker for workers compensation and liability insurance. Ensure company compliance with all applicable state, federal and local law as it relates to risk and safety for the organization.

Knowledge of:Operations, services and activities of a workers’ compensation, safety and liability program. Workers’ compensation statutory requirements. Basic pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to a self-insured workers compensation program, safety and liability program and its record keeping.

 

Ability to:Read, understand and apply laws, regulations and procedures.  Meet all compliance requirements. Maintain confidential information and records. Set priorities to ensure statutory timeframes and deadlines are met. Communicate effectively with 3rd party administrators, medical providers, and people who are ill or injured. Learn technical policies and procedures applicable to workers’ compensation, safety and liability program. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience:Four years of experience in HR administering workers’ compensation, industrial safety, loss control, accident prevention or equivalent.

Training:Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in occupational health and industrial hygiene, industrial safety, business or public administration or a closely related field.

Working ConditionsOffice environment working with computer, keyboard and pointing devices.  30% travel from site to site.  Occasional overnight travel.  This position requires sitting for long periods and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
