SR. ACCOUNTANT, CLAIMS ACCOUNTING

To analyze claims transactions for accuracy on all basis (gross and ceded). To record loss, IBNR, and ALAE expenses transactions to the General Ledger. To prepare, review, and analyze the majority of claims deliverables at month-end, quarter-end, and year-end for the Accounting Department and Actuarial Unit. To assist on special projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Analyze claims transactions in Access database and in MS-400 environment for errors and make the necessary corrections. Assure that claims information on both gross and ceded basis is complete and accurate.

2. Record loss, IBNR, and ALAE expenses transactions to Platinum General Ledger (G/L) each month end. Prepare, analyze, and record loss, IBNR, and ALAE expenses of prior accident years development to G/L each quarter-end.

3. Prepare loss and expenses development files, triangles, and many other claims accounting schedules and exhibits monthly, quarterly, and annually.

4. Run queries on claims and prepare many claims schedules and exhibits for Casualty and Program Underwriting Departments, Claims Department, and Actuary Department each month and on ad-hoc basis.

5. Coordinate and communicate with Home Office Accounting and Financial Reporting the manual accounting entries from time to time.

6. Maintain and update links and formulas within and between many Excel files and worksheets.

7. Review and evaluate existing procedures and operations. Make recommendations regarding problem areas.

8. Handle special projects as assigned. Develop and prepare specialized reports as requested by management.


ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide technical assistance and research to various areas as requested.

2. Perform other duties as directed.

EDUCATION EQUIVALENT

Bachelor’s degree (in accounting) or equivalent business/work experience. CPA or other equivalent professional certification is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

3-5 years accounting experience with 1-2 years as an insurance accountant. Have worked with advanced features, functions, and formulas in Excel. Have some experience with Access.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

Working knowledge of insurance accounting methods, principles, procedures and requirements
