Reinsurance Analyst

General Summary:

A primary responsibility of the Reinsurance Analyst position is to analyze, design, and build reports and relational databases for database management as requested by internal and external stakeholders.  Work as a liaison within the organization to provide reinsurance knowledge.  Responsible for providing reports and maintaining accurate and accessible reinsurance information.  Work on special projects as required and manage projects as assigned by the Reinsurance management team.



Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Liaison (Technical Resource) - Work with Reinsurance Management, IT, Accounting, Claims, Underwriters and Processing teams to maintain reinsurance data integrity and provide reinsurance knowledge to the organizations business teams.  

Project Management - Responsible for projects and tasks as assigned by Reinsurance Management.  This will include treaty renewal system inputs into WINS, maintaining and tracking treaty contracts, development of reinsurance material and miscellaneous reports.   

Reinsurance Data Integrity (Problem Solving / Analysis) - Write a description of data requirements for the IT department on data retrieval in WINS (request data needs from IT). Define, design, and build relational databases for reinsurance warehousing of data each year. Work with the Reinsurance Management team to analyze reinsurance information, processes, and procedures to determine most useful business solutions for the Reinsurance department and SJA (analyze download data, WINS processes, and procedures to determine the proper way to create reports). Analyze reinsurance data requirements, procedures and problems to automate processing or improve existing business systems (find a better solution to automate reinsurance data input/gathering). Under the direction of the Reinsurance Management team design reinsurance information reports for management or business partners with specific data requests (report development). Design and develop methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information for input and retrieval to and from the WINS system (utilizing Access, Excel, and Notepad).

 

Documentation - Document all reinsurance processes and procedures. This includes documentation of treaty data dictionary (information about data, including name, description, source of data item, and key words for categorizing and searching for data item descriptions) and new or revised reinsurance workflow, processes and procedures.  Implement new/revised reinsurance processing improvements and maintain and update the reinsurance section of the HOU Compass Manual.



Quality Control - Participate in auditing facultative placements to ensure that proper Reinsurance procedures are followed and documented.  Monitor the reinsurance structure in WINS on an individual basis for accuracy.  Analyze data gathered to evaluate effectiveness of controls and determine accuracy of reports and efficiency and security of operations.

 

Other Miscellaneous duties:

1.      Manage and prepare the Semi-Auto monthly reports for the parent company (SJI)

2.      Prepare reinsurance premium accounting payment(s).

3.      Maintain the reinsurance market security list

4.      Prepare proper reinsurance treaty / facultative allocation on individual claims and distribute reports to the internal staff and external markets

 

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  College degree or the recognized equivalent business experience Three plus (3+) years experience in data analysis related role to the P & C reinsurance business preferable. Analytical ability Exercises good business judgment Demonstrates a sense of urgency Drives the attainment of unit results through teamwork and a focus on meeting corporate objectives Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with all levels within the organization Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with external customers Superior skills in using software including Access, Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint ARe Designation or related education a plus!
