Pension Pricing & Contracts Analyst

Major Duties and Functions Include: Prepare and review pension benefit calculations by reading and interpreting contract language to find allowable options and methods of calculation. Research contract listings and other records to determine exact defined benefit purchased for annuitant. Troubleshoot or check mainframe calculations. Develop calculation spreadsheets and other miscellaneous calculation tools. Interpret requests and interact with other departments to obtain needed results. Assist with building, testing and moving new products to production. Create and conduct test plans for multiple special projects. Work with Senior Account Representatives and/or Pricing Analysts in assisting with new sales of Closeout annuity contracts. Work on special projects as assigned. Prepare defined benefit pension calculations by determined deadlines. Preparation of calculations that may include quoting various benefit options and ages given a defined benefit at one given age, actual retirement calculations, pre and post retirement death benefits, commuted values, tax excludable and exclusion ratios, lump sum and cash surrender values, estate tax valuation, cost of annuity, present value, and the refund of employee contribution and the effect the refund has on the associated annuity, relative value calculations, residual annuity calculations, minimum distribution, and delayed interest calculations. Recalculation of annuities because of changes in data used at purchase, such as incorrect date of birth of annuitant, and splitting of benefits as described in Qualified Domestic Relation Orders. Assign casework and review work of other team members. Provide training to new pension analysts and administrators. Manage relationship with Pricing actuarial staff and clients to clarify or resolve issues related to deliver satisfaction with services. Provide guidance and assistance to other units on an on-going basis. What You Need to Succeed: 1-3 years’ financial analysis or actuarial experience Excellent analytical and mathematical skill set. Ability to work both independently and as a team player. Excellent organizational and time management skills. High attention to detail, ability to accurately complete large volumes of work. Excellent oral and written communication skills needed in order to explain calculations to Administrators, Senior Account Representatives, Supervisors and Management. Excellent Project Management skills. Ability to identify, satisfy and exceed customer needs and expectations. Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel – able to create spreadsheets with formulas from scratch. Ability to learn and become proficient in various mainframe systems and internal software programs (i.e. Rates program, MAQS, Optimizer spreadsheet, etc.). Understanding of pension products and operations Working knowledge of actuarial concepts and calculation methods, e.g. actuarial factors and commutation functions. Knowledge of the IRS code, rules and regulations as they apply to defined benefit plans including 415 (b), 417 (e), Relative Value, etc. Experience with MS-Windows, Word, Access, Lotus Notes and Visual Basic a plus. Ability to read and correctly interpret defined benefit contract language and customer requests. Familiarity with different types of defined benefit plans including: Cash Balance, Social Security Offset, etc. Bachelor’s Degree preferred; major or minor in Math, Actuarial Science, Finance or Accounting strongly preferred.
