Provide first level review of financial reports prepared for management and regulatory bodies. Manage accounting staff. This position is located at our home office in the Brentwood area of Nashville. Limited relocation assistance will be provided.Essential Functions:1. Coordinate and review monthly analysis, challenging explanations provided, and distribute to management; compile answers to questions following management review.2. Review Statutory and GAAP financial statements under strict deadlines to include annually the statutory Management Discussion and Analysis and Audited Financial Statements.3. Research Statutory and GAAP accounting literature for complex/unique issues, consulting internally with AIG Office of Accounting Policy, forming recommendations/conclusions to resolution.4. Manage professional accounting staff of three. Assist or train other dept. accountants as needed.5. Analyze financial statement information to ensure accuracy and explain significant variances between current and prior periods. Review analysis produced by others. Provide explanations to management to assist in interpreting financial results.6. Investigate and respond to questions from management, auditors, examiners, regulatory agencies.7. Assist auditors and examiners in their audit of financial statements and records.8. Evaluate and challenge current processes, identify opportunities for improvements and develop and implement solutions using a high level of initiative.9. Prepare and distribute monthly closing schedule.Requirements:1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA designation required with prior public accounting experience desirable, MBA and industry certifications a plus (FLMI). 2. Minimum 5-7 years experience in accounting/financial analysis in the life insurance industry, working in a sophisticated and complex financial system environment. 3. Excellent knowledge of statutory accounting principles and extensive prior experience with statutory financial statement filings. Current on GAAP (SEC knowledge a plus). Independent judgment and discretion are used in applying GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).4. Minimum 4 years experience in management or supervision of two or more staff.5. Excellent personal computer skills, including familiarity with Excel, Windows, Hyperion, etc.6. Excellent analytical ability. Understanding of complex systems and regulations; logical accounting thought process and the ability to recognize trends, deviations and potential errors.7. Leadership, self-initiative, intellectual curiosity & excellent multi-tasking skills.8. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Will maintain contact/communication with management, corporate and other company personnel, external auditors, and regulatory examiners.9. Professional conduct and take-charge attitude. Ability to maximize job efficiency by prioritizing, organizing, multi-tasking, and working independently with minimal supervision. 10. Financial data reported by this position is subject to a high degree of scrutiny by management and auditors.
