Review individual life, annuity, group excess life, short-term disability, long-term disability income applications, reinstatements, and policy changes. Determine if acceptable, rejection, or modification of coverage is needed in accordance with company underwriting guidelines. Develop proper pricing based on suggested mortality guidelines, medical, and financial information. Direct contact with various company personnel.Direct contact with agents, agency staff personnel, and insureds regarding various risk situations.Direct contact with state insurance personnel and other company personnel.Direct contact with reinsurers and medical consultants.Must be capable of conveying adverse decision in a clear and effective manner.Must represent company and department in a manner that ensures confidence and a positive public image.1. Review new business applications, group excess cases, policy changes, and reinstatements to determine acceptability using various company materials (medical underwriting manuals, PDR, Merck manual, etc.)2. Establish appropriate pricing in accordance with company guidelines3. Analyze medical examinations, blood profiles, urine specimens, attending physician statements, inspection reports, financial statements, MVRs, and other underwriting reports to determine acceptability.4. Comply with solicitation and replacement regulations within required time period in states where required by law.5. Correspond with agents, company personnel, and insureds regarding risk acceptability, policy changes, etc., in accordance with HIPAA confidentiality guidelines.6. Review replacement business in accordance with established procedures pertaining to persistency.7. Review with agents the underwriting function, products, regulations, etc., and provide full service to the agent. Handle out-reach calls to agents to advise of rating on case, reason within HIPAA guidelines, and premium as appropriate.8. Handle close-out of all drop file requests from agents and insureds. Provide appropriate letter in response to this request.9. Handle release of exam requirements to insureds and physicians with receipt of appropriately completed/signed HIPPA authorizations form.10. Participate in field visits and meets. Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of underwriting experience.Bachelor degree or equivalent, AALU, LOMA courseworkMinimum of 2 years insurance experience.Bachelor degree or equivalent, AALU and LOMA courseworkKnowledge of underwriting and risk assessment.Excellent knowledge of company underwriting standards and philosophy.Knowledge of contractual provisions.Knowledge of state regulations.Knowledge of reinsurance contractions and operation.Excellent communication skills.Excellent computer skills.
