Inland Marine Territory Manager 1

Develop, coordinate, and underwrite new and renewal commercial lines business, through direct contact with select agencies and informal leadership of a CLTM Underwriting Team, to meet assigned objectives. Represent Harleysville Insurance and function as our primary relationship manager with select agencies for commercial lines including development, negotiation and execution of business plans for select agencies to meet assigned objectives of growth & profit. Support the development of other business units plans (personal lines, life insurance, flood, etc.) within select agencies and assigned territories.Provide informal team leadershipContact with policyholders, various bureaus, insurance departments, and reinsurers.Contact with various field and home office personnel at all levels and departments.A.) Commercial Lines Underwriting (expected time allocation: target: 50% - range: 40% - 60%)1. Quote, price, inspect and underwrite new and renewal policies, primarily for more complex or service sensitive accounts. Document underwriting decisions. 2. Coordinate the review and evaluation of rollover books of business for acceptability.3. Monitor risk selection, renewal retention and pricing decisions of assigned agencies, both on a book of business and individual account level. 4. Assure underwriting and service support is meeting needs of assigned agencies.5. Coordinates or conducts periodic reviews and audits to ensure company underwriting systems are being used appropriately by agents, and agency files are properly maintained. Deliver and/or arrange training of agency CSR’s on web site and on-line systems used for business transactions. B.) Agency Relationship Management (expected time allocation: target: 25% - range: 20% - 30%)1. Develop, negotiate and execute commercial lines business plans for select agencies in accordance with company and Profit Center underwriting & marketing objectives. Provide guidance and assistance to select agencies in meeting their volume and profitability commitments. Seek out and refer to appropriate business unit’s personal lines, life insurance and Flood and other product sale opportunities for select agencies and Harleysville.2. Monitor select agencies business plan results via production and profit reports (such as premium production, pricing, policy counts, loss ratio, declination and hit-ratios, etc.) for the purpose of monitoring performance and developing any corrective action plans for and with those select agencies not conforming to company underwriting philosophies and standards or not meeting the jointly negotiated business plans.3. Participate in periodic agency reviews, and provide feedback to Profit Center and Home Office upon request.4. Assure agencies fully utilize our automated systems to effectively and efficiently handle small market accounts.5. Keep abreast of strategic corporate initiatives to maintain effectiveness in the field.C.) Sales & Marketing Management (expected time allocation: target: 15% - range: 10% - 20%)1. Participate in and conduct sales/training sessions and orientation/implementation of new products/programs for select agencies.2. Assist select agencies with sales strategies to develop new business, improve retention, and maintain profitability. Meet with agents at their accounts to help with finalizing sales and assuring service plans are in place and working where required3. Identify opportunities for rollover books of business.4. Monitor market conditions, develop competitive intelligence, and make recommendations regarding new and/or existing products/programs.5. Provide leads and make recommendations regarding potential agency appointments.D.)Informal Team Leadership (expected time allocation: target: 10% - range: 10% - 20%)1. Provide informal leadership of the CLTM Underwriting Team (informal leadership does NOT constitute a direct report relationship).2. Through effective influence management affect activities of CLTM Underwriting Team to facilitate the successful delivery and execution of select agency business plans.3. Develop CLTM Underwriting Team strategy to successfully coordinate the efforts of the CLTM Underwriting Team regarding new business, renewals, service plans, etc.4. Conduct team meetings, communicating information about assigned agencies to the team, and recommending improvements in team processes.5. Communicate and collaborate actively with team members to share industry trends, and field underwriting experience. 6. Work with Profit Center Management Team to effectively coordinate all such efforts.Requirements: Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible commercial lines underwriting, marketing and agency management experience.Bachelor degree or equivalent, AAI or CIC, AU, CPCU studiesExpertise in markets consistent with our underwriting efforts and particular, complex product offerings.Excellent working knowledge of multi-line underwriting, pricing and coverage for small, mid-market and large account business. Capable of teaching others underwriting practices. Thorough working knowledge of company marketing/underwriting standards and philosophiesThorough working knowledge of state statuesExcellent knowledge of company products and programs to the extent they can teach many aspects of such material to othersSuperior interpersonal, oral/written communication, and sales skills Advanced PC skills In depth working knowledge of effective sales & marketing and agency relationship management techniquesExcellent leadership skills with strong potential for upward career advancement.
