It's a smart move.Responsibilities:Provide on-going underwriting direction to regional staff on risks which exceed the regions expertise and underwriting authority; research, develop and design programs, products and coverages which support a competitive position; and manage regional or nationwide programs as assigned.Underwriting Support Review and underwrite risks within area of expertise that exceed Field Office underwriting authority. Develop and enhance relationships with key agencies and production sources within the territory. Leverage existing and new relationships to increase premium writings within assigned territories and individual agencies. Serve as a resource to the regional underwriting staff: underwriting large risk referrals from the region; and making decisions on individual risk referrals from the regions. Identify, develop and implement underwriting policy, procedural and program changes in accordance with the underwriting strategies and regulatory environment. Ensure appropriate training programs are implemented and maintained to develop the level of underwriting expertise needed.Product Development Gathers information on competitive trends, product line trends, producer trends and the external environment, including legal, economic, demographic and distribution trends. Recommends new and revised products and programs, underwriting standards and procedures, and provide guidance on pricing to the regions. Monitors product results and develops proposals to maximize profitability, including the review of claims/large loss data.Product Management Manage a book of business within a designated territory in a region. Review and analyze overall business issues for assigned line(s) and territory providing information such as pricing, competitive trends and problem account identification. Responsible for underwriting quality of assigned book of business.Requirements: Knowledge of the insurance industry, agency operations, insurance laws and general business operations. Comprehensive knowledge of competition and marketing conditions. Skills to develop and deliver training programs to FFIC (Fireman's Fund Insurance Company) staff, agents and clients. Excellent communications and human relations skills to work with agents, regulatory agencies and underwriting management Excellent analytical and interpretive skills to identify business improvement needs and develop/implement solutions, and ability to analyze legislation or potential legislation and outline strategy of response.
