IF YOU’RE A CLAIMS MANAGER , WHEN CAN YOU START? APM Terminals is the global terminal operating company within the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. As one of the world’s largest terminal operators, APM Terminals has container handling operations at over 50 terminals worldwide including 12 in North America. APM Terminals is an Equal Opportunity Employer (M/F/D/V). Based in Charlotte, NC, the Claims Manager will assume overall responsibility for the management and resolution on best possible terms of all claims other than workers’ compensation, including APMTNA general liability, marine liability, property damage, builders’ risks and others as may be directed by the Senior Director, Risk and Claim Management. Key Responsibilities: · Implement and monitor terminal accident reporting procedures to ensure that APMTNA Risk & Claim Management and insurers are promptly notified of accidents and that post-accident matters are promptly addressed. · Manage all non-workers’ compensation claims, including APMTNA general liability, marine liability, property damage and builders’ risks claims.Ensure appropriate defense strategies are developed and pursued in all cases. Wherever called for, align defenses with other APM-M entities. · Receive service of legal papers from registered agent and process servers; identify and forward legal papers to proper recipients within APMTNA. · Seek out and obtain legal and expert advice as may be required in order to ensure the best possible overall outcome in all claims matters. · Arrange attendance of surveyors as required in respect of cargo, vessel or equipment damage claims. · Coordinate, monitor and fine-tune third-party claims administration programs · In collaboration with APMTNA Corporate Safety, coordinate and monitor red flag program. · Act as APMTNA representative is arbitrations, mediations, trials and case management conferences. · Coordinate with terminals and with third parties the handling of damaged or leaking cargoes and containers and ensure recovery from or settlement with third parties where called for. · Member of Accident Investigation Team, which responds to and investigates serious/fatal accidents, in coordination with APMTNA Corporate Safety, legal counsel and insurers. · Act as primary resource person for all APMTNA personnel on claims matters. · Visit terminals periodically to create and maintain quality working relationships with terminal colleagues at all levels, and to ensure that new terminal employees are familiar with risk management requirements. · Review all major accidents and advise APMTNA Corporate Finance on appropriate accruals. · Provide feedback to terminals and APMTNA Corporate Safety on loss trends and provide input on development, execution and improvement of claims prevention programs. · Independently authorize settlement of APMT claims and make recommendations to APMT CFO for cases beyond given settlement authority. · Maintain relationship with APMTNA’s 3rd party commercial accounts on claims handling and loss control matters.
Job Requirements:
We are seeking applicants who possess the following: · Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree At least 10 years experience in the marine/stevedoring environment, preferably handling claims.. Insurance industry certification preferred (eg – AEI, IIA, CPCU) Technical Skills and Competencies Required Extensive knowledge and experience in terminal and liner business Knowledge of company policies and procedures Strong legal and insurance knowledge pertaining to marine terminal and stevedoring contracts and claims Strong, demonstrated negotiation skills High integrity and personal credibility Well organized, self-directed individual Team player, with proven ability to work well under pressure.
