Director of Member Relations for business trade association
The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Member Relations. NAMIC is a trade association for the property/casualty insurance industry with over 1,300 member companies and is headquartered on the northwest side of Indianapolis (for more information about NAMIC, please go to www.namic.org). The Director of Member Relations position at NAMIC manages the relationships with current member companies as well as recruiting new members. It includes thinking strategically, being an excellent listener to determine member/potential member needs, and having the ability to clearly explain how NAMIC has offerings to meet these needs. Being able to think on one’s feet is critical to success in this role.
A unique qualification and exciting component of this job is having an understanding of the legislative and regulatory environment that property/casualty insurance companies in this country face, and being able to convey NAMIC's advocacy strategies in a clear and concise fashion. The best candidate would have a background working for a property/casualty insurance company, a knowledge of/interest in advocacy issues, possess effective selling skills, and exhibit a friendly yet professional demeanor. An enthusiastic, outgoing, optimistic personality is necessary for success in this position.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

8 New Member Recruitment
· Maintain a list of prospective member companies.
· Engage in activities that deliver new member companies into the association’s membership in a manner consistent with the association’s business plan.
· Design and produce any collateral materials needed to support recruitment efforts.
· Maintain a database of recruitment activities and contact summaries.
· Performance will be measured on the new member recruitment results vs. the current year business plan goals.
8 Member Retention
· Using membership data, create a methodology to assign a membership risk status to each member company. This methodology may include current participation tools but should also include new data based on other factors (such as member positions on industry issues).
· Engage in strategies that will preserve the association’s member base as outlined in the current year business plan.
· Communicate member company feedback as necessary.
· Create a formal mechanism to gather and report member company feedback on a regular basis.
· Primary responsibility for the collection of member dues. Follow up with members whose dues have increased significantly and members who are past due.
8 Public speaking including but not limited to representing the association at various industry events and providing spoken content on industry issues and NAMIC products/services as required.
8 Serves as the informal manager and leader of support staff/direct report(s).
8 Performs related duties as required.

8 Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or advertising preferred
8 Must be able to travel regularly by air and car including frequent overnight travel
8 Prior sales experience required
8 Proven experience in creating and managing positive customer relationships
8 Prior insurance industry experience required
8 Clear criminal record and acceptable MVR required
8 Valid driver’s license required
