We are one of the leading insurance companies in the United States.  Our superior financial strength and consistent record of strong operating returns mean security for our customers - and opportunities for our employees.  You will find Travelers to be full of energy and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference. We are currently looking for a Developer w/ Strong OO Methodology Experience, MS SQL Server T-SQL, DB2, or equivalent SQL experience.  Please read on for more details regarding this position. JOB DESCRIPTION: Job Description:The Claim IT organization is seeking an experienced and motivated application developer to work within our strategic Claim Handling Functionality Group development team.  This role focuses on the delivery and development of new solutions and functionality that align with our departments strategic platform vision.  The position blends design and programming work with some technical oversight of consulting resources.   Responsibilities include:-  Acting as a lead developer in the strategic Claim platform development efforts, focusing on implementing solutions and functionality that will be leveraged by many parts of our organization.-  Involvement in all phases of the systems development life cycle, from business specifications to development to testing and finally implementation with a strong emphasis on analysis, design, build and unit testing.-  Working with the Architecture team to solidify a sound technical design.-  Accountable deliverables may include technical documentation, estimating, coding, debugging and troubleshooting, code reviews, and unit testing.-  Working independently as well as part of a larger project team to meet project and deliverable deadlines.-  Helping to guide the work of offshore consulting resources.-  Mentoring junior developers on the team with their day-to-day work. Job Requirements:-  Must be proficient in the Microsoft .Net platform and have strong technical design and programming skills-  Strong MS SQL Server T-SQL, DB2, or equivalent SQL experience -  Excellent problem analysis and problem solving skills-  Some object-oriented design experience (UML a plus)-  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers, partners and customers-  Understanding and experience with the systems development life cycle (SDLC)-  Ability to rapidly learn technical/business techniques and disciplines.-  Strong commitment to high quality work and timely deliverables.-  Insurance, Litigation and/or Claim Handling knowledge is a plus. OTHER:Technical KnowledgeHas expert knowledge of at least one applications discipline, along with the ability to rapidly learn technical/business techniques and disciplines of special value to the systems supported.  Possesses a working knowledge of the business and/or technical environments in which the system operates and a solid knowledge of the business function supported.  Demonstrates the desire and aptitude to become the expert in one or more technical or project management disciplines and applies substantial effort to gaining more knowledge in that area Business Knowledge & PartnershipWorks effectively with business unit to formulate specifications and present results of analysis.  Works with management to establish schedules.  Places high priority on services and consistently meets scheduled dates.  Handles business contacts with clear, concise communication in business terms and adjusts to changing priorities.  Demonstrates attitude of willingness, cooperation, and concern for business issues Problem Solving & Decision MakingDevises technically feasible solutions for moderately complex problems.
