POSITION OVERVIEW Designs, creates, alters and maintains database solutions, across multiple platforms and computing environments, that meet the needs of the business. Performs industry research for data and database technologies and related software, tools, standards and training. Creates and implements data and database administration procedures, standards, guidelines, tools, support and training. Performs analysis and problem resolution related to data and databases. CRITICAL COMPETENCIES Creates physical database design and develops and implements databases in DB2 Unix and/or DB2 z/OS. Performs Unix and z/OS database specific application tuning; (added carriage return). Diagnoses and resolves problems related to the DB2 Unix/ OS/390 z/OS platform. Strong background in programming desirable. Previous knowledge and experience in DB2 Unix or DB2 z/OS environments desirable. Varied knowledge and/or experience in business environments desirable. Takes logical database model and develops physical model. Develops physical database and handles implementation. Participates in design reviews. Provides training and mentoring to others. DpropR (also known as WebSphere Information Integration Replication) knowledge and experience preferred but not required. Problem resolution or hands-on problem management experience. 5-7 years prior experience directly relating to data work and led complex efforts with medium size work teams. CRITICAL SKILLS Understands technical environments for DB2 on z/OS mainframe or DB2 UNIX. Provides physical design services and systems database tuning for the database manager. Consults on database designs. Assists in facilitating database and application design reviews. Establishes database system business resumption rules (backup and recovery). Minimizes and manages data redundancy. Consults and promotes reuse of data. Using the logical model, build physical database and associated metadata. Coordinate and manage the organization in the physical databases for current and future database environments. Development and maintenance of the database. Works with project efforts to assist and consult on database design and implementation. DB2 application programming, use of DB2 utilities. SQL coding/performance tuning. Mainframe/Host.
