OneBeacon currently has an opportunity for an APD Commercial Lines Claim Supervisor to join our Canton, MA team.
This position develops plans, analyzes results and oversees daily work of direct reports. Reviews and provides direction or recommendations on APD claims. Monitors claim quality, customer feedback and claim reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, customer satisfaction and achievement of corporate objectives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensures execution of claim handling strategies; including appropriate determination of coverage, liability and damages.
2. Monitors reserving activity to ensure compliance with corporate policy.
3. Reviews and documents recommendations for claim disposition; including evaluation, negotiation and settlement of claims in excess of staff authority levels.
4. Reviews and analyzes claim reports to identify and address trends. Recommends strategies to correct adverse trends.
5. Monitors vendors, independent adjusters and appraisers to ensure service quality.
6. Manages unit staffing issues; including ensuring appropriateness of staffing levels, creating, implementing and monitoring of performance plans for direct reports.
7. Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external).
Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level:
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for making consistent coverage decisions and damage evaluations. Provides oversight and resolution of issues related to coverage, liability and damages. Makes requests and recommendations on performance plans, salaries, and the hiring and termination of staff.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
Strong commercial lines APD claims technical knowledge. Excellent negotiation, verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Must have the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with agents and business partners. Must interact with internal and external partners and customers. Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including current Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Outlook. Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and provide follow-through on projects. Requires the ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a member of a team.
Education and Experience Preferred:
High School diploma is required along with a strong insurance or technical APD commercial lines background.
Bachelors degree desirable.
3-5 years of Commercial Lines APD claims experience, with 1-3 years of supervisory experience.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises 4-7 professional/technical positions, and at least 1 support position.
Will oversee the direction of all claim files and personnel may oversee within the department/unit.
Accountable for the decisions made, and actions taken by direct reports.
Responsible for ensuring that their teams achieve corporate processing standards and the team's annual business objectives.
Completes performance evaluations on direct reports.
Authorized to make personnel selection, development, and discipline up to and including termination.
Strategic planning and achievement of goals for their team.
