Claim Specialist - Litigation
Investigate, evaluate, negotiate and conclude, by settlement or denial, all assigned litigated personal and commercial P & C claims. • Investigates, analyzes and resolves complex coverage issues • Assesses and determines liability and damages • Drafts coverage letters including Reservation of Rights and Denials • Establishes and monitors reserves in a timely manner • Communicates and corresponds with insureds, reinsurers, attorneys and brokers/agents • Assigns litigated claims to appropriate defense counsel; coordinates defense counsel activities; and manages/controls the litigation process • Documents claims files and maintains control of work through documentation or diary system • Negotiates and settles litigated claims within delegated authority • Conducts face-to-face negotiations, attends settlement conferences, and appears for court proceedings as necessary (e.g. high exposure claims, etc.) with supervisory approval • Prepares for, and participates in, internal claims review (e.g. SLR, etc.) conferences • Monitors and manages loss adjustment and legal expenses • Closes claims by securing appropriate releases and issuing checks and/or drafts • Insures compliance with company, state and federal regulations •5+ years GL, litigated claims handling experience •Exceptional investigation, analysis, judgement, decision-making and negotiation skills •Excellent verbal, written, negotiation, interpersonal and presentation skills •Excellent prioritization and organizational skills •Must be able to work with limited supervision •Must possess, or demonstrate a commitment to achieve, the necessary state claims handling licenses •Must possess certification(s) identified as acceptable in Selective’s Claims Certification Policy or a demonstrated commitment to achieve certification within 3 years of hire date •Knowledge of NY Labor Law and NY Municipal Law •Proficient keyboard and automation skills If interested, please apply online at http://track.jobviper.com/ViewJob.asp?id=559422-3-843
