Benefits Specialist
Delta Dental of California is the state’s largest dental health plan. Along with its affiliates, the nonprofit corporation covers over 17 million people in its commercial and government programs throughout California and 19.7 million throughout the nation. It is part of a national holding company system formed with Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and its affiliates. Together, the holding company members represent one of the largest dental benefits systems in the country, with 23 million enrollees.
Currently, we have an excellent opportunity available in our Human Resource Department. We are seeking a positive and pro-active Benefits Specialist to join our team in our Rancho Cordova office. This position will interact daily with employees and service vendors to provide high level benefits administration for Delta’s various benefit plans.
The primary function of the Benefits Specialist position is as follows:Responds to employee in-person, telephonic and email inquiries on benefit issues; coordinates, facilitates and follows up with employees and insurance carriers to facilitate claims resolution and closure.
Updates and maintains benefits data on HRMS, including data input and resolution of benefit reporting issues (vendor discrepancies and daily reports); assists with HRMS testing.
Provides benefits education and policy/plan materials to employees to ensure that they have the necessary information to select the appropriate benefit plan and understand the specific plan provisions and claims process.
Processes student certifications and marriage & birth certificates; maintains benefits-related documents and files.
Oversees benefits orientations for new hires, including initiating online invitations, providing benefits enrollment packages and ensuring all employees complete the online training.
Ideal candidate must be highly motivated and meet the following minimum qualifications:A minimum of three (3) years of prior benefits administration work experienceExperience using an HR database system.Knowledge of health care industry issues.Knowledge of plan provisions, disability, safety and leave plans.Proficient in PC environment and experience using Microsoft Office; advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint and Word; Front Page and HTML experience, preferred. Regularly required to work standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, etc.)A high school diploma or GED; AA/BA/BS degree preferableStrong organizational/time management and project management skills and multi-tasking abilities.Detail orientation and problem-solving capabilities.Ability to work with little supervision and use sound judgment to determine whether an issue can be resolved independently or needs to be escalated.Customer service focus and solid communications skills with all levels within the company.Excellent written and verbal communication skills to confidently work with other executive offices.
