JOB DESCRIPTION: SUMMARY:Provides legal support to experienced counsel as part of the litigation process; works as part of legal team in the defense of office clients; effectively represents clients in legal proceedings commensurate with abilities; provides quality and cost effective advocacy by demonstrating increasing professional development, knowledge and expertise in the litigation process. PRIMARY DUTIES:Works under the direction and supervision of experienced counsel in reviewing litigation files and learning about the litigation process. Provides input and recommendations to others on appropriate file handling strategy. Provides legal research as directed and demonstrates effective and persuasive legal writing skills. Drafts pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other file documents as directed by experienced counsel. Demonstrates personal commitment to professional development by seeking out opportunities for exposure to the litigation process. Attends court events and other appointments with or under the supervision of experienced counsel. Responds to Managing Counsel and others within the office, clients, claim customers and courts in a timely manner. Demonstrates desire to acquire effective trial skills with the goal of trying cases in state and federal courts, and before compensation, industrial, labor and arbitration commissions, commensurate with abilities. May handle a reduced caseload with appropriate supervision, as determined by Managing Counsel. Effectively utilizes office resources to assure smooth workflow and cost effectiveness. Learns and understands claim customers' expectations and key department business goals and assists them in meeting those goals. Completes and submits time sheets, reports, closed cases and other materials appropriate to performance of job duties in a timely manner. Handles special projects as assigned. EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:Must have received a law degree from an accredited college/university. WORK EXPERIENCE:Average of 0-2 years of relevant legal experience. CERTIFICATES/DEGREES:Must have passed the bar examination in the state(s) in which representation is required. COMMUNICATION SKILLS:Strong written communication and oral presentation skills.
