Assistant General Counsel
An insurance company is in need of an Attorney specializing in insurance claims and to oversee contract matters in its headquarters office in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate will represent Legion in negotiated resolutions to Notice of Determination (NOD) objections, handle NOD objections before referees, manage outside counsel as necessary in the NOD objection process and other Commonwealth Court and liquidation matters, and manage the contract process.
Reporting to the Associate General Counsel - Claims, this individual will represent our position and policies in negotiating resolutions to NOD objections, manage outside counsel and costs in referee, Commonwealth Court, and liquidation matters, manage to contract process by reviewing & negotiating contracts, developing contact procedures and safeguards, and provide regular status updates to Senior Management and the Liquidation Team. This position is accountable for competent, ethical and objective representation and consultation.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements include:
- JD and Bar admission in good standing; graduate of accredited law school with at least 7 years of experience as an insurance claims attorney with complex major claims management/in house experience strongly preferred.
-Knowledge of the insurance industry, experience representing insurers or liquidation experience.
- Litigation or administrative hearing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex relationships in a political environment.
- Must be able to operate in a multi-tasking environment with an emphasis on deadlines.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to manage communication with a variety of internal and external sources.
Responsibilities:
- Represent Liquidator positions and policies in negotiating resolutions to NOD objections, advising operational partners, handling NOD objections before referees in the NOD objection process and coordinating with Claims, Liquidation Team, Associate General Counsel and Special Funds Counsel as necessary.
- Manage outside counsel and costs in referee, Commonwealth Court and liquidation matters. Determines applicable case and policy arguments and strategy and coordinates discovery as needed.
-Prepare reports for status updates, communicates to senior management and liquidation team and documents files as appropriate.
-Develop, track and manage internal NOD objections, including documents and information support for Administrative Referee.
- Manage and drive contract process, review contracts, negotiate contracts and develop and refine contract procedures involving multiple stakeholders.
