Application Development Manager

The Application Development Manager will be responsible for managing all of the custom software development activities of an application development project team. He/She will provide effective leadership and management for twelve or more project coordinators, analysts, software engineers, and software testers to satisfy business unit requirements and meet project schedules. The Application Development Manager will establish project schedules and assign resources to meet project deadlines; will act as a resource for team members regarding all phases of the application development life cycle. He/She will prepare and administer performance evaluations, recommend salary increases and be responsible for employee supervision and employee development. The Manager will also provide regular status reports for IT management and business unit stakeholders alike.

  Primary Responsibilities:

· Provides team members with guidance and input for most day-to-day projects, and assumes an active leadership role in special projects.

· Manages application release planning for the various systems.

· Performs as a mentor and coach to the staff and assists individual performers in the development of useful skills.

· Responsible for upward project reporting.

· Communicates release plans and status to the IT organization, as well to the business and other groups.

· Often responsible for formal and informal presentations on application development topics.

· Stays abreast of key technologies such as: B2B & B2C web sites, business intelligence, document management,  enterprise application integration, mainframe based processing solutions.

· Maintains an understanding of the business that the application supports.

· Develops measurable performance objectives that support organizational goals, and regularly reviews metrics with employees to provide feedback.

· Recruits new employees and strives to develop highly productive teams.

 

Requirements:

· Significant experience leading application development projects and teams to develop custom business software.

· In-depth knowledge and understanding of software development practices and project management skills.

· Practical experience managing by objectives and applying performance based management.

· Experience managing outsourced consulting services or leading teams of contract employees.

· Demonstrates effective communications to different levels within the organization and to many types of audiences.
