Actuarial Assistant - Loss Reserving – Chicago, IL Apply online at: https://home.eease.com/recruit/?id=52666 POSITION SUMMARY: Provides support for the analysis of loss and expense reserves and completion of related financial reports for Unitrin Direct and affiliated companies. The analyst should be able to prepare and analyze data and communicate results and findings. The role will support Product Management and Finance, helping to ensure reserves are accurate with minimal variation, so that profit is accurately reflected in the company’s financial statements. The Senior Actuarial Analyst will have the opportunity to lead or assist in analysis, research, and enhancement of processes that impact financial results. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: PREPARES and MAINTAINS statistical data and reports used to assess loss and expense reserving needs. COMPLETES monthly and quarterly reviews of loss and expense reserves by segment, RECOMMENDS changes to reserve levels, and COMPLETES appropriate documentation. PROVIDES support to assist Finance, Pricing, and Product Managers in communicating and understanding financial results relative to reserve changes. ANALYZES changes to claims processes and products to determine how they impact development of losses and expenses, and work with management to gain a common understanding of those impacts. COMPLETES reviews of reserving processes and RECOMMENDS enhancements to those processes to improve efficiency and accuracy. SUPPORTS broad research projects such as analysis of statistical reserves. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: College degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. 3-5+ years experience in an actuarial role with a property/casualty insurance company required, preferably including personal lines and loss reserving. 3+ Casualty Actuarial Society exams required, 4+ exams preferred, with intention of continuing to progress through CAS exams. Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Expertise in Microsoft Excel, as well as data extraction tools such as SAS. Must have good oral communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, and be able to take initiative, working with limited supervision.
