Maintenance Superintendent

As Maintenance Supervisor the qualified individual will and coordinate activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing physical structures and utility systems for a North Slope Camp which holds 300-500 residents.  Will serve as direct supervisor for other maintenance staff, including general maintenance mechanics, journeyman electrician and journeyman plumber.  Schedules preventive maintenance activities, initiate’s work orders, ensuring that work conditions are safe, verifying that work is performed properly, providing instruction when necessary, dealing with disciplinary issues when they arise, and sharing in duties of these workers when necessary or as opportunity permits.  Oversees the budget for the maintenance department and orders supplies.  Estimates repair costs of equipment and indicates which crafts will be involved in repair work.  Responds to requests for information and complaints involving maintenance-related matters.  Verifies work hours of other maintenance staff and signs pay slips.  Conducts daily “tool box” safety meetings.  Works closely with contractors and engineers on plant improvement projects.

 

Requirements: A high school diploma or GED is required for this position.  The primary qualification beyond this is an extensive background of training and experience in all construction trades, including at least five to ten years experience in an industrial maintenance or large hotel maintenance type setting.  Specific areas of competency include general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.  A knowledge of safety rules, codes, and regulations that pertain to the operation of facilities is required, as well as personal training in various aspects of safety, including an eight-hour North Slope Training Cooperative class in environmental and safety awareness, confined space training, hazardous materials (Hazwoper) training, and four “Safety in Motion” classes in ergonomics and safe lifting.  The ability to respond calmly, quickly, and appropriately when equipment malfunctions or dangerous conditions exist is needed for this position, as is the ability to adapt to the changing needs of this Camp.  Good supervisory and people skills, good oral and written communication skills, and good office skills (including computer work) are all needed.  Above average general learning ability and spatial aptitude are required for this position.

 

This a three week on (11.5 hour days) three week off remote site position.  EOE/MF
