Innkeeper/Live-in Hospitality Operations Manager, Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts

If you have the passion to be a hands-on, live-in innkeeper, with full responsiblity for all hospitality staff and operations, check out this position.

Our 17-room country inn B&B is centrally located in the village of Lenox in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts.  The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, many prestigious performing groups, and historic sites like the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Berkshires is the premier summer cultural destination in the United States.  Other seasons offer magnificent fall foliage and almost any outdoor activity a visitor could desire, including hiking, cycling, skiing, and boating. For more information on the Berkshires see www.berkshires.org .

We are seeking a highly-motivated, self starter who sees this position as a challenging next step in his/her hospitality career.  If you are a couple, we also welcome your application.  We would be able to offer part-time and seasonal full-time employment for a second person who has one or more of the following skills:  chef, housekeeping, wait staff, front desk.  A second option for a couple would be to share the Innkeeper position, as well as fulfill some of the other part-time responsibilities listed.

This is a full-time, year-round position that requires a flexible attitude about work and a real love for serving guests and the hospitality business.  It is not for the person who wants a 9-5 job where you can go home, shut the door and forget about work.  The summer season approaches 100% occupancy.  Other times of the year, while not as busy, will still require your highly-dedicated oversight of operations, but will reward you with considerable flexibility in managing your time during the week.

Your primary responsibilities will be to handle the majority of reservations, checkin/checkout and guest services activities.  You will supervise the housekeeping and operations staff and contractors (such as lawncare), and generally be responsible, as the live-in manager, as the first line of response for any issues that may arise in off-hours.  You will help with the breakfast service, although there will be a chef to prepare the meals and during the summer season there are also wait staff.  You will also take care of monitoring inventories, local purchasing of supplies and accepting deliveries.  Work days will normally be Thursday - Monday.  Hours will vary depending on the time of the year.

The key to success in this position is to absolutely thrive on providing a high level of service to the Inn guests and be successful in leading an energized, productive employee team.  There are challenges to every job; the successful person in this position will see these as an opportunity to delight our guests with your creative and personal care and attention.  The successful candidate's resume and references will reflect these proven capabilities, as well as 5 or more years of relevant work/management experience.

Compensation is competitive, including fully-paid health care and 3 weeks paid vacation (increasing to 4 after 2 years). You will have the opportunity to earn a performance bonus based on your contribution to increasing our business and profitability.  A cozy, 2-room suite in the Inn is provided for your living quarters, as well as kitchen access and breakfast.

Your success will be supported by easy access to the family owners, who live nearby and will participate with you in the daily interaction with Inn guests as well as handle financial and strategic management of the business.  Other inn staff include a chef and waitstaff responsible for meals, spa therapist, and a director of marketing, with whom you will work as part of the management team to contribute ideas for increasing inn revenues.

This property is already positioned in the top group of Berkshire B&Bs, and our goal is to continue to invest in and build its quality and reputation to be among the very best country inn B&Bs in the United States.

If you are excited about the opportunity to join our team, please contact us about this position, which is available now.
