Communications Specialist
Position Description:
Purpose:
Create and execute communications for Carlson's corporate Internal Communications Department, principally writing and editing the bi-weekly e-newsletter and stories/promotions for the corporate intranet, and other communications projects as assigned. Provide support to functional communications and various employee events. Work under direction and consult with team members to deploy specific media. Work with internal executives and teams. Work can have multi-national reach.

Key Responsibilities:
- Gather, write and edit accurate and engaging content for a variety of media, primarily the intranet, and serve as a proofreader/editor for other material.
- Demonstrate Web best-practice and technical knowledge for managing content on the corporate intranet.
- Produce bi-weekly company-wide e-newsletter.
- Work with functional customers (primarily HR and Legal) to develop communication strategy and implement communications for within the function and enterprise initiatives including developing communication plans, creative briefs, and communications effectiveness measurement.
- Support Manager and Director, Internal Communications in executing corporate communications including corporate town halls and events by writing, coordinating logistics, technology and presentations, as well as managing external vendor resources.
- Serve as a member of the Colleague Communications Council.
Position Requirements:
Job Specific Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Strong Writing Skills and Experience: Ability to interview executives and subject-matter experts, and write creative and effective communications. Strong editing ability and APA writing style knowledge required. Ability to consult with and coach customers providing constructive guidance on writing improvements.
- Organization: Ability to proactively prioritize and effectively manage time and resources. Ability to work well under tight deadlines.
- Project Management: Identify goals, set scope, manage customer expectations, identify issues, remove obstacles, define responsibility, track task completion, communicate project progress and measure and present results.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to understand the business environment and articulate strategy to the customers' benefit.
- Self Leadership: Be proactive and take initiative in work, show enthusiasm and act with integrity
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or related field
- Minimum 3 years experience in a related communications field. Experience with internal communications production and process a plus (HR communications a strong plus)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; creative and business writing samples required
- Knowledge of Web best-practices and experience managing websites
- Advanced experience and knowledge of MS Office suite and Outlook, experience with InDesign and HTML
- Meeting- or event-planning skills a plus
- Ability to work with individuals at different levels within the company
