Tissue Recovery Specialist
Florida Tissue Services, a fully owned subsidiary of LifeNet Health®, is currently seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team at our TALLAHASSEE LOCATION as a TISSUE RECOVERY SPECIALIST.
JOB SUMMARY
Assists with the day-to-day tissue recovery operations of their site office. Provides leadership to tissue recovery teams and participates in all aspects of tissue recovery operations following established LifeNet Health policies and procedures. Performs all tasks assigned that relate to successful completion of tissue recovery operations. Organizes recovery teams, performs tissue recoveries, and performs role of trainer and/or preceptor for tissue recovery technicians. Performs all tasks associated with the recovery of tissues for research from both organ and tissue donors. Performs tasks related to the perfusion of kidneys for transplant to include additional preparation of the vasculature, placement and monitoring of the perfusion and delivery to the transplanting surgeon.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Actively participates in the tissue recovery call schedule as set forth by the Manager of Tissue Recovery.Recovers musculoskeletal tissues, skin, cardiovascular tissues, and other tissues or organs for transplant and research in the capacity as team member or team leader following LifeNet Health’s or researcher’s Standard Operating Procedures accurately to include but not limited to the recovery authorization, medical history and behavioral risk assessment questionnaires, relevant medical records to successfully identify information pertinent to LifeNet Health or client donor criteria policies, and appropriate donor reconstruction. At managers’ discretion, assists with autopsy follow-up, chart completions, donor ID log verification, and error/accident and complaint follow-up. Responsible for maintenance, stocking, and preparation of supplies necessary for tissue recovery operations and is accountable for equipment used for each recovery. Oversight provided by the manager of each office. Responsible for sterilization and maintenance of tissue recovery instrumentation in accordance with LifeNet Health decontamination and sterilization procedures. Ensures proper use and operation of sterilization equipment. (For Central and Western LifeNet Health regional offices only.) Provides leadership and is a resource for tissue recovery team members. Transports or arranges for transport of recovered tissues/cultures to the LifeNet Health Virginia Beach and other tissue recovery client’s facilities for quarantine and processing, both wet ice and dry ice procedures. Works actively to maintain good relationships with area medical examiners, pathologists, and funeral home directors. Participates and / or provides 1st assistance in the operating room on local organ donors when requested. Actively participates in kidney perfusion and all procedures associated. Takes perfusion calls as required. Assists TR managers and director with developing new tissue recovery procedures and reconstruction practices to improve the tissue recovery process. May participate in the training of external clients at the request of the Tissue Relations Department. Oversees ME office operating room for cleanliness and maintains proper stock levels. Assists TR managers with scheduling, agenda and documenting the minutes and action items for monthly tissue recovery staff meetings at site office. Maintains a high level of professionalism at all times and follows LifeNet Health patient confidentiality and quality control guidelines. Follows LifeNet Health policy regarding responsible use of the mobile phone and pager. Meets agreed upon departmental goals and objectives set forth by Director and Regional Manager, effectively and in a timely manner.
REQUIREMENTS
1.Bachelors or associates degree level study with an emphasis in allied health or science field preferred. Successful completion of a 1 year allied health care technical or professional program with current certification, or ORT, or Hospital Corpsman, or 1 year of experience in tissue banking or related field.
2. Valid State driver’s license.
3. Must obtain AATB, CTBS certification within 3 yrs of employment. Must maintain certification throughout employment.
4. Demonstrated written, verbal, and communicative skills.
5. Must complete the TR Technician, TR Team Leader, TR Specialist, and kidney perfusion training checklists within 1 year after start date.
