In our 18 Operating Rooms, you are not limited to one specialty area, but rather a broad spectrum including, but not limited to open hearts, a strong orthopedic/ neuro focus and retinas. Approximately 13,000 surgeries are performed annually in our Surgical Services Department.As a Surgical Clinician and have the opportunity to be in a leadership role in the area of expertise by timely assessment of the patient and appropriate communication with the physician and surgical staff in order to deliver quality safe care.Duties and responsibilities include and are not limited to: Maintains procedure cards and educates staff on new procedures and equipment while continuing to perform routine duties of the Registered Nurse in the O.R. Performs accurate, ongoing, pertinent assessment for each assigned patient. Reports pertinent data to other health care team members and implements appropriate action. Initiates appropriate plan of care to address holistic, age-specific needs and reflect the patient’s changing condition. Relays information to other health care team members who will care for the patient, facilitates communication with the patient’s family or S/O when appropriate. Initiates the transfer of the patient into the O.R. in a timely manner, anticipates changes in the room’s schedule and communicates to the desk as necessary. Demonstrates confidence and speed in the roles of circulating nurse and scrub nurse (as opportunities provide) commensurate with the employee’s level of experience. Demonstrates ability to prioritize care based on the patient’s current needs and to intervene appropriately in emergency situations. Assumes the charge nurse role in an effective manner: Appropriate assignment making, accounting for severity of patient condition and staffing mix. Supervises and directs care given by others. Assures care delivery consistent with standards of practice. Is a resource to staff on duty for collaboration and coordination during the shift. Utilizes appropriate problem-solving as issues occur throughout the shift (staff or patient concerns, physicians, equipment, etc). Accepts Chare and/or take extra call as requested, provides leadership in improving direct care given by others. Assumes accountability for creating/correcting preference cards, assists with writing policies, procedures, and standards of care when opportunity arises. Maintains level of expertise in specialty to function as educator, resource person, promotes independent practice of the staff within the specialty. Evaluates the skill levels of staff in the specialty and implements individual programs to address deficits. Participates in educational process by precepting students and orientees effectively and contributing to their learning experience. Informs staff of new equipment and provides unit services. Anticipates and resolves equipment conflicts; makes recommendations for capital budget purchases based on input from surgeons and an understanding of the fiscal goals of Salem Hospital.The above accountabilities represent work performed by this position and are not all-inclusive. Understanding of new technology, inventory, equipment, and cost reduction t as it relates to quality care and the fiscal success of the organization, a plus!Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of accredited nursing program. Registration and license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon prior to date of hire. At least two years experience in Operating Room required and one year experience in Clinical Specialty.Working Conditions: Ability to safely lift, pull, and turn a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted and over 100 pounds. Adequate visual and hearing ability to read and perform nursing procedures safely.
