Position Description:
The Center for Autism Research (CAR) at CHOP coordinates, sponsors and supports research into understanding the causes and treatment of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). CAR is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Pediatrics and with the Joseph Stokes, Jr. Research Institute at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.CAR is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to administer evaluations of speech, language and oral motor function to research participants in an academic research setting as part of a multi-disciplinary team studying infants and children with, or at risk for, autism spectrum disorders. The Center will not perform fee-for-service assessments, but rather will operate completely out of a research protocol model. It is expected that the CAR will have more than a dozen protocols running at any one time. While direct treatment will not be initially involved, there may be opportunities to provide treatment as part of specific research protocols. The candidate will function as a core member of the research team that is responsible for interviewing parents or caregivers, doing direct evaluation of the child, providing recommendations and feedback to the family and other health professionals, and scoring standardized assessment tools. The candidate will participate in advancing knowledge regarding the diagnosis and evaluation of children with ASD through active participation in research, program development, teaching and dissemination of original data via presentations and publications. Will provide consultation to medical, allied health, and education personnel and provide recommendations and feedback to families.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology with a minimum of 2 years licensed experience. Completion of clinical fellowship in pediatric medical-based setting preferred. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC/SLP); Licensed or license-eligible in Pennsylvania.Experience in evaluation and treatment of persons suspected of having an autism spectrum disorder; comfort in performing evaluations across a broad continuum of severity and age ranges (toddler-adult)Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with faculty, medical researchers and staff of various levels.
