SightLifeâ„¢, a global leader in eye banking, will train you to medically screen potential eye and tissue donors with hospital staff, to interact and discuss donation options with potential donor families, and to coordinate logistics of tissue recovery with the eye bank surgical recovery technician and other donation agency coordinators. All core duties are completed via phone. Experience with sensitive interviews, health care, social work, or science is preferred. We are seeking the right individual who can work independently, is trustworthy, and excited about fulfilling our mission. The hours for team members are variable, but the current opening is primarily for overnights. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $37,400 - $50,600
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for coordinating donor referrals and obtaining authorization for donation prior to recovery of tissue. In addition, position may provide support for recovery, chart processing, distribution, laboratory maintenance, and hospital services as needed.
Principal Accountabilities:
· Coordinates donor referrals in professional and efficient manner.
· Approaches donor families in a professional and sensitive manner, balancing the interests of the donor, recipient, family, and SightLife interests.
· Performs sensitive and thorough donor medical/social history interviews in an accurate and timely manner.
· Advocates donation during communication with other organizations and with donor families.
· Communicates with Distribution staff to meet distribution needs for research tissue.
· Performs routine coordinator functions to monitor all referral coordinator activity (including other employee’s referrals) including timely follow-up on early/pending death referrals, updating referrals in database (i.e., Statline), filing referrals, etc.
· Performs routine statistical reporting of referral and approach/consent activity.
· Assists with gathering and reporting of referral/donation statistics to Hospital Services.
· Performs laboratory functions related to donor screening and tissue evaluation such as specular microscopy, blood preparation, etc., as needed.
· Routinely gives feedback to Hospital and Family Services Director regarding hospital education issues.
· Routinely gives feedback to Technical Director regarding medical review and logistics of coordinating.
· Performs routine night and weekend donor coordination.
· Performs all aspects of referral triage, recovery, processing, and distribution when activity or staffing levels require.
· Must be able to work long hours, nights, and weekends when needed.
· Must have reliable, dependable transportation.
· Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
· A personal commitment to organ donation required.
· In all daily activities, strive to support the Mission, Vision, and Values of NLFSH. Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
· Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all Eye Bank staff.
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
· High School or equivalent.
· Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
· Relevant educational or work experience with one year of eye banking experience preferred.
