Senior Programmer/Analyst
Job Description: Under the direction of a Lead Application Programmer, the application programmer will work on Enterprise level applications. The software developer/programmer will design and implement complex web based software. The developer will be able to troubleshoot a complex environment consisting of web, application and database servers. The candidate is able to quickly understand and retool software already written. Design and develop specimen banking software for human and animal tissue. The application will include system functionality for: managing the consent of human subjects for specimen collection; gathering core clinical and medical history data on consented subjects tracking specimen sample storage; and, processing orders for and retrieval of tissue samples based on specific clinical and research parameters. This application requires knowledge of three tier architecture application development with security set at the functional, user and role based levels. 2. Design and develop databases and user interfaces in support of Mount Sinai's Bio-Cooperative initiative beginning with Cancer Center disease clusters. 3. Design and develop a workflow management system for Mount Sinai's 10 Shared Research Facilities and other Department labs that will include order entry, specimen tracking and workflow management by SRF, retrieval of data resulting from SRF analysis and invoicing grants for services provided.4. Develop databases and user interfaces to support individual research projects as requested.Job Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, or equivalent (training / experience) - Minimum 3-5 years real world programming experience - Excellent proficiency and experience with object oriented programming and several programming languages - Excellent understanding of relational databases and SQL is required - Proficiency in writing efficient and maintainable code - Ability to troubleshoot and resolve coding problems - Understanding of revision control software - Good written and verbal communication skills - Good analytical and organizational skills - Ability to quickly learn and adapt emerging technology - Experience as a member of a project development team (i.e. user requirement gathering, design, implementation and support) - Experience in a Hospital/Research environment is a plus
