SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This individual will provide strategic direction and ensure optimal commercialization potential for the oncology pipeline products for the U.S. marketplace. This person will work closely with Global Strategic Marketing, Research, Development, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Commercial Operations, Legal, and Sales Effectiveness to ensure organizational alignment with the commercialization strategy of the brands. This individual will work closely with business development to identify and evaluate potential US Oncology in licensing and/or acquisition opportunities. Work collaboratively within EMD SERONO and Merck KGaA, and external partners and teams, to support development and manage execution of strategic and tactical marketing plans. Effectively execute marketing activities necessary to successfully support all stages of an oncology product's lifecycle and market entry. Major duties and responsibilities include: Provide leadership in the development and execution of commercial strategies and comprehensive market development and commercialization plans supporting oncology products bound for the US market in conjunction with Global Strategic Marketing and aligned with the companies' overall bus iness and operations objectives Responsibilities include input to US positioning, messaging, branding, and development of US DTP strategy and tactics, professional education, promotional activities and materials, communication plans, publication plans, and advisory boardsDefine and communicate a US strategic commercial position to the organization by integrating commercial, clinical, and scientific information. Develop and implement a US Product Plan, including but not limited to target product profile, positioning, managed care approach, draft labeling, health economics study needs, Phase IV objectives and timing, publications strategy, and distribution approach. Preparation and management of brand budget to support market development and pre-launch efforts, including publication planning, key opinion leader development, patient advocacy, medical education, public relations, and branding.Ensure US commercial participation and leadership in all appropriate project teams including portfolio management meetings, as needed.Establish and lead the US cross-functional commercial team, which defines and executes associated new product development activities to ensure commercial readiness.Work collaboratively with key thought leaders, academic institutions, cooperative groups, and professional and patient advocacy groups to ensure competitive advantageDevelop US product Life Cycle Plans in conjunction with Global Strategic Marketing.Identify US market research needs, align on market research plans with Commercial Operations, and translate competitive intelligence into product strategiesDirectly support senior management by conducting analysis, synthesizing strategic inputs, and providing strategic recommendations related to product decisions.Provide input to US product sales forecasts, demand analysis for production, and P&&LsDirect the development, approval and distribution/implementation of promotional and educational materials and programs to ensure that these materials are aligned with brand strategy and positioning, as well as produced in a timely and cost-efficient manner.Ensure that all EMD SERONO marketing materials and activities meet internal guidelines as well as any rules and regulations of meeting sponsors/regulatory agencies through assuring internal or external review by appropriate experts.Serve as key source of knowledge of the therapeutic area, the products, and the competition. Work collaboratively with in house and outsource partners to research market needs and opportunities. Monitor competitive trends in assigned areas and suggest appropriate action to better position EMD SERONO products in development.Continuous evaluation of new commercial opportunities for in-licensing in collaboration with Business Development. Conduct commercial due diligence on assigned opportunities.Serves on committees where functional or therapeutic area viewpoint is needed to improve processes or meet business objectives.Hires, trains, and retains managers and staff members. Creates compelling and robust development and succession plans for all key positions within the function.Inspires, aligns, mentors, motivates and mobilizes teams. REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:Minimum of 10+ years of pharmaceutical and/or healthcare experience with a minimum of 5 years in brand marketing, new product commercialization, market research, business development, or a combination of the above, however new product commercialization experience of 2+ years in oncology is required. Minimum of 5 years experience in oncology with deep understanding of oncology market dynamics based on first-hand experience interacting with market decision makers. Strong understanding of the R&&D and commercialization process for oncology productsFirst hand experience with financial modeling and integrating market research results into strategic decision-making processes Undergraduate degree in business, marketing or sciences required. Strong, team-oriented leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and work effectively within a matrix and multi-cultural environment.Ability to credibly influence others at all levels in the organization by bringing the appropriate strategic perspective to key product development and commercialization decisions required. Previous management experience required.
