General Summary:

 

The DSS Senior Analyst's major responsibilities include the following:

 

(1) Provides comprehensive project management for a portfolio of quality and performance measurement initiatives throughout Brigham and Women's and Faulkner Hospitals, examples include: patient satisfaction survey programs, data analysis and reporting for operational/clinical departments, external benchmarking efforts, quality of care and clinical outcome performance tracking, and measurement support for patient safety improvement efforts.

 

(2) Analyzes and organizes complex qualitative and quantitative clinical, financial and administrative data from multiple sources, and synthesizes results into meaningful reports and presentations on a regular basis.  Provides highly skilled interpretation for key stakeholders, including identification of key drivers and opportunities for improvement.

 

(3) Provides high-level analytic and QA support for the ongoing development and continued implementation of the Balanced Scorecard Performance Management system through out BWH and Faulkner Hospitals using SAS analytic tools.

 

(4) Designs and implements comprehensive education, training, and marketing program for the BWF-wide Balanced Scorecard Performance Management system.  This requires an exceptionally broad understanding of key organizational databases and systems, the BSC program, and the needs of diverse end-user groups.

 

(5) Educates, trains, and mentors DSS Analysts and Lead Analysts in methods of data analysis, summarization and presentation, as well as core analytic and reporting systems. 

 

Skills/Abilities/Competencies 

 

1. A thorough knowledge of information systems and their application to healthcare and ability to be creative/innovative in the way problems are addressed.

 

2. Requires ability to work effectively with physician, nursing, secretarial and ancillary staff.

 

3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor message to individuals and audiences throughout the institution.

 

4. Ability to effectively supervise, train and mentor staff of varying levels of experience.

 

5. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to focus detailed concentrated effort to multiple projects and re-establish priorities as necessary.

 

6. Initiative and ability to work independently (self-direction), while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness.

 

7. Attention to detail that ensures follow through on all initiatives implemented, and all projects undertaken.

 

8. Proven skills developing distributed databases using Microsoft Access desired, including user interface development.

 

9. Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines.

 

10. Demonstrated ability to manage a busy office environment within the context of a large medical center and health care delivery system.

 

11. A high degree of social facility in obtaining cooperation and support from a broad range of people. 

 

Qualifications 

 

 1. Bachelor's degree required master's degree or healthcare experience highly preferred, preferably in business information systems, public or health management or the sciences.

 

2. At least 4 or more years of experience in a healthcare organization, preferably in a related analytic position.

 

3. Exceptional judgment and discretion in interacting with physicians and senior management on sensitive political and confidential issues.

 

4. Knowledge of current issues in the healthcare environment preferred, particularly regarding quality measurement, outcomes studies, healthcare finance, and patient safety.

 

5. Proven project management skills and/or applicable experience, especially with large hospital information systems used for analytic purposes.

 

6. Data management and familiarity with large data sets experience preferred.

 

7. Knowledge and application of statistical analyses including financial variance analysis and statistical significance preferred.

 

8. Proficiency in IBM PC systems and applications including Access, Excel, Lotus, PowerPoint, Paradox, WordPerfect, publishing, and other database management software.
