SURGICAL SERVICES COORDINATOR for ORTHOPAEDIC PRACTICE

Job Purpose:

Provides the coordination of surgical services between orthopaedic patients for private practice orthopaedic surgeons for inpatient and outpatient surgical services. The coordindation of services allows patients to receive care after paperwork process is completed, including authorization of benefits, ordering instruments and equipment as well as securing time  on doctor's surgical schedule.

Duties:

* Orients and educates patients and their families by meeting them; explaining the role of the patient care coordinator; initiating the care plan; providing educational information in conjunction with direct care providers related to treatments, procedures, medications, and continuing care requirements.

* Develops interdisciplinary care plan and other case management tools by participating in meetings; coordinating information and care requirements with other care providers; resolving issues that could affect smooth care progression; fostering peer support; providing education to others regarding the case management process.

* Complies with private practice policy and procedures as well as hospital and legal requirements by fostering communication between patient, dcotor and hospital.

 

* Protects self, co-workers, and patients by following policies and procedures.

 

* Respects patients by recognizing their rights; maintaining confidentiality.

* Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.

* Maintains patient care database by entering new information as it becomes available; verifying findings and reports; backing up data.

* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by learning and implementing in office processes with hospital processes; attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications and handbooks as needed .

* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
