Research Specialist (Synthetic Antibody / Protein Engineering)
Job Summary: The Research Specialist will be tasked with developing a state-of-the-art antibody resource to support the ongoing research efforts of JFRC scientists, in particular, developing and screening recombinant antibody libraries. Additional responsibilities include purification of antibodies from hybridomas, dye and fluorescent protein conjugation, testing of commercial antibodies and managing outsourced services. The position requires a forward thinking scientist familiar with emerging technologies in the field of protein engineering. Principal Responsibilities: Work in a laboratory setting performing specialized molecular biology protocols related to the development and production of antibodies. This includes the production of synthetic antibodies such as scFv and screening of antibody libraries. Execute, develop and optimize specialized and novel investigative procedures related to the assigned scientific research efforts. Characterize commercial antibodies using standard and specialized immunohistochemical techniques Configure, operate and maintain specialized equipment Troubleshoot procedures and assist in implementing modifications to research protocols. Prepare and present written and oral progress reports concerning studies; assist with the assembly, organization and interpretation of results. Train others in the proper use of laboratory equipment and technical procedures. Preferred Qualifications: Masters of Science in Biochemistry, Cell, Molecular Biology or related discipline or equivalent in education and experience. Minimum two years experience in recombinant antibody and protein engineering techniques: phage display, scFv production, antibody conjugation. Expert experience in protein expression and purification, modification, growth and purification of antibodies from hybridomas, cloning, PCR, DNA, and RNA isolation, immunohistochemistry. Ability to evaluate emerging technologies in the field Expertise in molecular biology, recombinant protein and antibody expression and purification (bacterial and mammalian) as well as biochemical and functional characterization of proteins and antibodies Attention to detail, strong communications skills, and ability to interact with scientists at all levels. Ability to manage multiple projects multi-task and maintain timelines. Additional Information: Please include a cover letter and three references with your resume.
