Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Units

Job Duties:

 

Provide responsible management of medical care.  Care provided shall respect and integrate the patient’s beliefs, values and cultural influences.  The duties of each contract nurse shall include, but is not limited to, treating inpatients; completion of nursing assessments; completing appropriate nursing procedures; provide direct nursing care including completion of basic hygiene and activities of daily living; administering medications and monitoring patients response to medication; assuring that diagnostic tests are completed and results are communicated; arranging follow up care; providing patient education documenting all aspects of patient care in the clinical record.

 

The ICU RN shall be a primary care nurse and provide direct nursing care for one to two patients in the Intensive Care Unit (either MICU/CCU/PCU or SICU) or one to four in the PCU. 

 

The Medical/Surgical RN shall be a primary care nurse and direct nursing care for six to eight patients in the Medical/Surgical Unit.  The RN shall provide total nursing care to adult, geriatric, acute and chronic medical patients in an inpatient setting and shall be flexible to work any area when there is a need for staffing. 

 

On Med/Surg units and Extended Care, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Nursing Assistants are assigned to assist with care.

 

Experience/Qualifications Needed:

 

-Possess an unrestricted license in a U.S. state, territory or US commonwealth.

-Speak English proficiently.

-Provide evidence of demonstrated current clinical competence.

-US citizen.

-Have a current ACLS and BLS certification.

-Be computer literate. Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia, SC and the  CBOCs utilizes a computerized patient medical record.  Must have moderate typing skills, 25 words per minute, in order to enter their own progress notes into electronic medical record.

-Have a minimum of 2 years of experience working as a RN.

 

Schedule:

 

ICU, Med/Surg, and ED work schedule shall consist of compressed tour coverage of days and/or nights shifts consisting of:  six (6) - 12 hour tours – 7a-7:30p; 7p-7:30a and one (1)- 8 hour shift to include Federal holidays and every other weekend during an 80 hour pay week. Also eight (8) hour shifts shall be available for Med/Surg and Extended Care to include Federal holidays and every other weekend.

 

Registered Nurses assigned to the Operating Room shall have a tour of 7:00AM – 3:30PM. Monday through Friday.
