RN Nursing Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: This employee has the responsibility for coordination of total customer care. RN Nursing Supervisor performs responsible supervisory and professional work in directing and coordinating all nursing units. The individual must have had advanced training and broad nursing experience including supervisory duties. The work requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, ability to adapt techniques and procedures in accordance with unusual situations, and the exercise of initiative and good judgment. The work is carried out according to standards of professional nursing practices, center policies, rules and regulations, and State and Federal standards.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Verifies, daily staffing and redistribution, as necessary;

2. Collaborates with all charge nurses daily, to exchange information regarding customer care, customer condition and all matters affecting customer well-being (i.e. admissions, discharges, transfers, out of or within the building), makes recommendations regarding nursing process, and communicates concerns to supervisors of other departments and DON;

3. Makes rounds, morning and night, to assess customers' condition, giving special attention to critically ill customers;

4. Ensures that the individual nursing care plan is followed for each customer;

5. Performs medication passes and/or direct customer care as needed;

6. Participates in customer care committee meetings;

7. Reinforces the training and orientation of nursing personnel and provides positive reinforcement;

8. Answers any/all emergencies throughout the shift (i.e., change of customer condition, starting IV's, pronouncement of death);

9. Assists in assuring a safe and sanitary environment for customers, employees, and visitors;

10. Assures that the building is secure during the evening and night hours by checking doors and alarms according to nursing center protocols;

11. Reviews incident and investigative reports for accuracy and completeness;

12. Monitors meal service on the units and in the dining areas to identify issues requiring intervention and to assure customer meal satisfaction and nutritional adequacy;

13. Assists in development and implementation of nursing center Q.I. Program;

14. Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;

15. Performs other duties as requested.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. The RN Nursing Supervisor must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and there must be current registration with the professional board of nurse examiners of the state.

2. Experience in the nursing field, especially in geriatric.

3. Supervisory experience in long term care is required.
