Organize and administers individualized age specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care.  Supports philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the  Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act,  American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, JCAHO requirements and other regulatory agencies. Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning.  Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.  EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:   Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.  Preferred Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or currently matriculating. Current New Jersey RN licensure required. BCLS certification may be required, or completion of requirements for BCLS certification within 90 days of hire to the unit. I.V. certification  from an approved facility or completion of  requirements for I.V. certification within 90 days of hire to unit may be required. Completion of all Orientation requirements of Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Successful completion of all Orientation Programs. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT/SKILLS:            Meets requirements as defined by applicable Department Specific Equipment Competency Checklist. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:            Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease and risk of physical injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment. WORK CONTACT GROUP:        All patient related hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel and medical staff. SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must meet requirements of the ADA. SUPERVISED BY:Nurse Manager and Patient Care Coordinator Founded in 1865, Saint Barnabas Medical Center is New Jersey's oldest and largest nonprofit, nonsectarian hospital, and among the busiest facilities in New Jersey.
