Nurses at Saint Barnabas Medical Center possess the knowledge and high level skills that are needed to assure our patients will be cared for in the best possible environment. We deliver this care with compassion and kindness, understanding the true unique needs of each individual placed in our care. 1.       Assists with weaning post-operative patient from the ventilator. Communicates findings, problem or concerns to the CT surgeon cardiologist and/or CT anesthesia in an appropriate timeframe.2.       Independently recovers the post-operative cardiac patient undergoing surgery for DRG's 104, 105, 106, 107, 109.3.       Interprets and independently manages advances hemodynamic monitoring including CCO and SVO2.4.       Demonstrates knowledge and skills in advanced clinical assessment.5.       Demonstrates knowledge and verbalizes rationale of pharmacology and pharmokinetics of processors and vasoactive medication.6.       Interprets and appropriately treats arrhythmias according to hospital policy and ACLS protocol.7.       Completes unit-based competencies for JCAHO requirements and hospital policy. Remains knowledgeable on current nursing policy and procedure.8.       Demonstrates knowledge and skill in man aging patient with:a)       care of temporary pacemaker using epicardial pacing wiresb)      IABP and ABIc)       CRRTd)      Nitrous oxide usagee)       ABG interpretation and O2 therapyf)       Open chest procedure and cardiac arrest9.       Initiate and update clinical pathways.10.    Utilizes principles of guided imagery.11.    Initiates and participates in CQI activities for the patient or department. Suggests ways to improve practice.12.    Assumes charge nurse function as delegated by the Nurse Manager including assessing staffing needs, organizing and delegating work assignments based on patient acuity and individual staff skill levels. Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Current New Jersey RN licensure required. ACLS certification required. Experience in critical care, minimum 2 years required. As a teaching institution, Saint Barnabas trains 141 residents and fellows each year through 10 approved residency programs.Among Saint Barnabas' nationally recognized facilities are The Burn Center, the only certified burn treatment facility in the state; the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Renal Transplant Center, which performs more transplants than any other facility in New Jersey, New York, Boston or Philadelphia; The HEART HOSPITAL of New Jersey, a world-class cardiac surgery program in affiliation with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; and the Regional Perinatal Center, providing care for high-risk and critically ill infants in New Jersey's leading 50-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
