REGISTERED NURSE - YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY
* Maintains professional skills and knowledge necessary to provide current and competent nursing care to ward-patients.
* Attends in-service training programs to enhance professional development.
* Participates in patient advocacy by developing a plan of action to improve health care, communicate directly or indirectly thr patients concerns and wishes and allows patient involvement in management of their care.
* Identified health-teaching needs and participates in ongoing health teaching for ward-patients.
* Maintains ward-patient confidentiality.
* Maintains current knowledge of and participates in the department's Bloodborne Pathogens, Infections Control and Safety Programs.
* Responsible for medication and tool control practices.
* Maintains order and supervises the conduct of youthful offenders, protects and maintains the safety of persons and property in the performance of assigned duties.
45% RNCF
* Initiates nurse-patient interaction, collects data (assessment) and document the nursing assessment in the ward-patient's Unit Health Record (UHR).
* Analyzes and integrates the collected ward-patient data into the nursing diagnosis.
* Priortizes nursing diagnosis, formulates expected outcomes (goals and objectives), selects nursing actions and incorporates into an individualized plan of care.
* Initiates and completes nursing actions and supervises ward-patient care provided by the non-licensed Hospital Aid (HA).
* Monitors the ward-patients response to nursing care and revises the plan of care as needed.
* Documents all aspects of the the Nursing Process application and the wad-patient response or lack of response to the care plan in the UHR.
35% RNCF:
* Collaborates with members of the health care interdisciplinary team and other staff involved in the care and treatment of the ward-patient.
* Assists physicians and other health care providers in the assessment evaluation and treatment during ward-patient encounters.
* Maintains current knowledge and skill in tne use and care of medical equipment and supplies.
* Assists in maintaining adequate medical supplies and equipment in the patient care areas.
* Maintain adequate sterile equipment and supplies to support activities in the patient care areas.
* Starts and monitors intravenous therapy as prescribed. Provides emergency care, treatments and administers medications to ward-patients.
* Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing standards, policies and procedures.
15% RNCF
* Collects laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing.
* Participates in annual tuberculosis testing of wards and staff.
* Attends Health Care Serises Division and VYCF training programs as assigned.
5% RNCF
* Serves on health care committees as assigned.
* Participates in the orientation of new nursing staff (RN and HA).
