PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:A leader with the ability to transform Procurement in such a way as to support the future growth of EMD Serono. This candidate should be a strong US procurement professional that can manage, lead and bring talent into the US organization. This person will need to build solid business relationships with Commercial, R&&D and Essential Service functions. Process and System excellence a must: reengineer the procurement to pay process with a detailed knowledge of the full Procurement cycle, including system expertise in Oracle/SAP/E-Procurement. This person must be able to build solid relationships with both local and corporate colleagues to deliver maximum value to the US entities. Solid negotiation background is essential to deliver full value to the organization. MAIN INTERFACES:INTERNALLY:Senior Management Team (reporting to CEO) within the Commercial, Research, Development and Essential Service functions. Close working relationship with Finance, IT, Legal, and Global procurement group.EXTERNALLY:Strategic suppliers and Vendors, Auditors. KEY TASKS && RESPONSIBILITIES Management and Leadership Effectively transform the procurement function. Lead and manage all Procurement talent. Includes recruitment, on-going performance management, and coaching to ensure employee development.Champion the evolution and re-engineering of business change within the Requisition to Pay process.Provide Procurement and Contracting expertise in support of all Commercial, Research, Development, Essential Services and Project teams.Develop, maintain and ensure compliance with Procurement policies Accountability Area Responsible for effectively managing all Procurement activities across all functions, all Therapeutic areas and all lines of business.Establish, monitor and deliver results against key performance indicators and benchmarks to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the R2P process. Strive to achieve stretch targets. Autonomy and Authority Ensure that Procurement team works with all functions and department heads to deliver final negotiated contracts that meet the business requirements. Final approval on purchase requisitions per internal approval matrix. Functional Knowledge Develop an understanding of future business objectives in order to design and implement consistent and efficient processes and systems for the acquisition of professional services.To provide expertise in Procurement to all internal customers. Focus will be on specialized procurement efforts in support of sales, marketing and R&&D services, as well as, basic commodity spend.Strong process and system background to ensure ability to implement best practices and technologies in full Procurement cycle.Ability to design, deliver and maintain policies and procedures, incorporating all reengineered elements of the R2P process.Ensure compliance with all internal and corporate guidelines and maintain effective control environment. Business Expertise Background in Pharmaceutical and or Biotech industry with a focus on strategic sourcing for sales, marketing, research and development. Remain current on business and market dynamics of the Pharma industry as well as cutting edge Procurement practices. Problem Solving Drive alignment between the Procurement function and all internal business partners.Broker negotiations with external parties and provide the optimum solution for EMD Serono.Makes decisions by exercising judgment within generally defined organizational as well as industry practices/guidelines. Nature and Area of Impact Deliver value to the organization with inherent savings for reinvestment in the organization. Ensure alignment of spend with all Operating and Capital budgets through strong relationships with Financial Controllers.Drive successful R2P and System Process Improvement projects.Leverage system opportunities (SAP, E-Procure)Optimized vendor selection to fully support all business requirements. Interpersonal Skills Strong leadership skills to motivate and drive cultural change within procurement and EMD Serono. Ability to influence change within a team environment.Requires self-confidence and excellent communication skills (written and verbal).Solid negotiation skills.Ability to deal effectively with internal customers at all levels of the organization with diplomacy.Comfortable engaging with and presenting to senior executives and other functional leaders Special Projects Strengthen and re-brand the Procurement image to ensure maximum utilization and impact on the organization.Drive the re-engineering of the R2P process with Legal and Finance Departments.Contract Management System.Implementation of new ERP system.Development of Business Performance Management Tool.Other projects to be defined.
EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Bachelors Degree required (MBA Preferred)10+ years of procurement work experience in a large multinational organization.At least five years people management experience.Biotech or pharmaceutical industry background a plusBio/Pharma association activism a plusActive in Procurement (or finance) Networking Groups and Associations LANGUAGES Fluent in English (written and spoken).Spanish/German a plus. SKILLS && COMPETENCIES Highly energetic and engaged leader.Exceptional skills in strategic influencing, collaboration, communications, and conflict management.Proven experience in departmental team management, talent sourcing and image branding.Change leadership experience with proven track record in process re-engineeringAbility to drive diplomatic challenge to current concepts and to tackle large, complex projects/issues.Proven project management background in most categories key to procurement activities of a large commercial organization.Active external learner - identifies current trends and better ways, and takes advantage of ideas, best practices and solutions developed elsewhere.Ability to manage and support business growth in current processes or promote changes.Strong financial skills to ensure maximized value delivery in all contracts.Experience with Oracle/SAP/E-Procurement Solutions.Able to work on complex matters and facilitate team solutions in an independent fashion.Ability to solve problems and make decisions in a proactive manner.Must possess EMD Serono core values: Transparency, Responsibility, Integrity, Courage, Achievement and Respect.
