Postdoctoral Position

Job Summary: To work on the structural characterization of a number of complex macromolecular assemblies using electron microscopy, image reconstruction and biochemical and biophysical assays. The research in the laboratory is attractive to researchers wanting to extend their biophysical or biochemical expertise into the expanding area of cryo-electron microscopy and single particle reconstruction. HHMI's facility at Berkeley has state-of the art electron microscopes within an environment of several electron microscopy groups with a very strong tradition in the field, as well as research groups of international caliber in the biological areas. Principal Responsibilities: Projects include human transcription initiation complexes, replication, and microtubule cytoskeleton. Use your biophysical or biochemical expertise into the expanding area of cryo-electron microscopy and single particle reconstruction. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics or an appropriately related field. Researchers with a strong background in biochemistry preferred. Previous experience purifying and handling large protein complexes are preferred. Experience in the fields of eukaryotic transcription or DNA repair would be highly valued. Ability to think independently and work cooperatively.
