Postdoctoral Fellow

Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow- John Wayne Cancer Institute and Saint Johns's Health Center

Position Description: The postdoctoral fellow will conduct translational molecular genetic research related to human solid tumor cancers. The individual will be responsible to develop a research study focused on development of biomarkers and/or functional molecular physiology on solid tumors. Studies will be designed and developed to test hypotheses followed by pilot and validation studies. Areas of focus are in transcriptome profiling, methylation of genes, regulatory genetic factors, circulating tumor cells, and/or circulating DNA. Must be highly familiar with and able to develop new molecular genetic assays. The individual must understand theoretical background in molecular genetics of cancer and will peform molecular genetic assays, tissue culture, and molecular biochemistry analysis related to projects. The individual must be independent in developing and completing projects, and troubleshooting experiments efficiently. Must have ability to present results and write up completed research into well organized reports and manuscripts. Candidate will work in a team group and have leadership capability in moving projects forward.

Position Requirements: EDUCATION: (Include degrees and licenses required)

Must be an MD and/or PhD in the field of Oncology.  Must have at least 3 years experience in the oncology field.

EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of translational molecular genetics as applied to human solid tumors. Skilled in basic molecular genetic laboratory assays such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing, primer/probe designing, etc. Must have excellent understanding of cancer staging and disease outcomes analysis, and correlative translational studies.  

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Ability to work independently, and to contribute as part of a team when necessary. Have leadership capability to help guide others working in the same area.  Ability to deal with a wide variety of personalities and professional circumstances.  Ability to use a computer program software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook). Understand biostatistics and perform simple analysis.
