Physician Assistant I
DEPARTMENT: Minor Injury Clinic
SCHEDULE: Part-Time Regular, 32 hours per week, Varied shifts. Scheduled days and hours will vary and will be based upon operational needs: will follow the contract for notification of schedule change.
EDUCATION: Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant training program approved by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Medical Board of California (M.B.C.) and the Physician Assistant Examining Committee (P.A.E.C.). Two year certification program with an emphasis in Internal Medicine, Family Practice or Emergency Medicine, General or Surgical Sub-specialty.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current California P.A. license. BLS certification required. Must have a Nat'l Provider Identifier (NPI, or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date.
JOB SUMMARY: Provides health care services to members under direction and responsibility of physician.
QUALIFICATIONS: May be required to possess specialty skills in order to perform tasks required by the specific department (e.g. Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, etc.). Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum two years recent work experience in an Emergency Department/Urgent Care Clinic. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement patient management plans in accordance with physician. Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationship with patients, staff and physicians. Excellent work history with respect to attendance. Training and work experience to include, but not limited to:
1. Treatment of musculoskeletal problems (simple fractures, sprains, strains, and contusion)
2. Treatment of minor lacerations (including sutures), abrasions, puncture wounds, (not involving tendons or nerves).
3. Treatment of subungual hematomas, paronychias, epicondylitie and ingrown nails (ablations) incisions and drainage of abscesses, infected cyst, treatment of external thrombosed hemorrhoids, hemorrhoidal bleeding, and removal of superficial soft tissue foreign bodies.
4. Treatment of epitasis packing, cauterization, balloon tampondae, and treatment of minor eye injuries, corneal abrasions, foreign bodies.
5. Has consistently demonstrated service oriented performance.
SKILLS TESTING: N/A
DUTIES: Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal. Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
OTHER DUTIES: Responsible for providing comprehensive primary care. Under the direction of the MD, provide care for patients with pediatric, gynecologic, surgical, orthopedic and medical problems presenting for treatment in an urgent care clinic and/or Emergency Department fast track. Candidate should be able to provide care at a pace appropriate for a high volume urgent care/Emergency Department setting. Candidate must be able to work independently. Must treat external and internal customers in a respectful, friendly, helpful and professional manner at all times. Must adhere to the service expectations of the department and facility.
