POSITION SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is a professional member of the health care team who provides Physical Therapy services to patients. The Physical Therapy Assistant is directly accountable to the supervising physical therapist who provides supervision in compliance with Medicare and state regulations including regulations issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions of the Position): 1. Provides physical therapy treatment in accordance with the physician’s plan of care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. 2. Observes, records and reports the patient’s reaction to treatment and any adverse changes in the patient’s condition to the physician, supervising physical therapist and other appropriate health professional. 3. Instructs and advises patients, families/caregivers and other health team members as appropriate, to assist in reaching the goals of the plan of care, maintaining patient confidentiality. 4. Completes all documentation as required and submits per agency policy. 5. Attends agency orientation, meetings, case conferences and in services as scheduled. 6. Maintains open communication with supervising physical therapist regarding the patient’s status. 7. Obtains authorization for treatment as required. 8. Responsible for keeping current in physical therapy trends and knowledge. 9. Calls prior to scheduled visits. 10. Performs other duties as required. QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Required ? Meets educational requirements as described by the Physical Therapy Board of California. ? Current California PTA license. ? Current BLS-CPR certification. ? Ability to relate to a variety of health professionals. ? Minimal business travel and a valid California Driver’s License plus proof of car insurance. ? Current California driver’s license and proof of current car insurance. KNOWLEDGE: · Knowledge of home health preferred. · Ability to work independently. · Good communication skills. SKILLS/ABILITIES: ? Must be self-directed and able to work with little supervision · Able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care primarily to the adult and geriatric populations served. · Ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative relationship with patients, families, customers and co-workers. WORK ENVIRONMENT/DEMANDS OF THE POSITION: (Travel, Physical Demand, Dexterity, Mental Demand, Working Conditions) ? Travel: Position requires minimal business travel and a valid Driver’s License. ? Physical Demand: Light physical effort. For example, standing, bending, or stooping for extended periods, operating light office equipment, e.g., personal computer, copier, fax machine, etc., manually handling medium weight materials and/or equipment (0 to 10 pounds). ? Dexterity: Light dexterity, e.g. using data processing equipment, long periods of standing/sitting, etc. ? Mental Demand: Moderate to high degree of concentration due to volume, complexity, and/or “pressure” of work. ? Working Conditions: Clean working conditions with no disagreeable factors.
